The moment Apple make touch a thing of OS X is the moment they have fucked off every single pro user.

It's a stupid idea. And stupid ideas that investors and share holders scream for.

Mac is not for gimmicks and nonsense. I use this shit to work. Leave the weird fanboy features to the phone/tablet world thanks.

    • they have left the pro market a long time ago, son.mekk
    • They make a Mac Pro. It's a beast.monospaced
    • It's horribly overpriced and not upgradeable. Only blinded companies would invest in such a machine.mekk
    • I know many video editors that would disagree. And they actually are upgrade able. Anyway.monospaced
    • uh-hu? You're stuck with the CPU architecture until a new one comes out, GPU-change is worse than ever, Internal HDD space is a joke...mekk
    • But oh, you've got thunderbolt.mekk
    • I thought the gpu s could be swapped. Video editors rarely ever use internal storage for video anyway since it's so big. can you build one with same specs?monospaced
    • I'm genuinely curious since my video editor friends swear by them and say it's the most powerful video editing available. But I can't personally verify that.monospaced
    • Obviously it's not a machine for the masses. It's really designed for one thing.monospaced
    • Of course these machines are fast and all but you really can build a faster one with far less money. I've impressed a lot of my coworkers with my $1600 PC,mekk
    • esp when it comes to adobe software. InDesign is buttery smooth on Windows eg.mekk
    • Was talking about the video cards actually. I heard they were hard or impossible to build in the same config as Mac Pro. And no thunderbolt.Maybe it's changed.monospaced
    • I'm not trying to argue even. It's just that people who use them for what they do call them the best and they've used it all. Just my 2cmonospaced
    • ..until you still need Final Cut Pro. Then you're trapped. But moving on to Premiere is strongly recommended.mekk
    • Ask moldero. He might have some input as a video editor himself.monospaced
    • did an online yesterday on a Mac Pro, day before grade on a mac, week before offline edit on mac etc.... OS X is a great os and still fine for pro's.inteliboy
    • point is to not want all that OTHER iOS shit on a mac.inteliboy
    • mono: the video cards are standard ATIs, nothing you can't have on PC.zarkonite
    • zark: can you build a machine with multiple?monospaced
    • i worked on apple computers back when they were called macintosh during 80s and such. since the mid 90s they turned into almost shit. 2k + just shit. sorry.renderedred
    • today, no difference between apple and pc. except the hipster price you pay for apples.renderedred
    • lol @ ATImekk
    • @renderedred for that extra price you get a limited software, shit repairability and less harware choice, too!mekk

You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but not having one at all is lazy.

Go try a Surface with the stylus. You can use a mouse and keyboard, but for some things the stylus is a billion times faster.

It's about offering flexibility. I'd consider a Mac laptop running W10, but without a touchscreen it's just a more expensive Dell with less features.

They are also way behind in the stylus department, though it looks like they are finally coming out with one.

    • I wouldn't expect much from an Apple stylus. Their mice suck and have always sucked, the keyboard only looks nice and the usb trackpad was a joke.mekk
    • Probably, but if they want the ipad to sell at all they'll have to keep up with Surface and Note (new note looks great)formed
    • Exactly, Formed.docpoz
    • What do you mean "if they want the iPad to sell?" MS would bust a nut to have a fraction of the iPad sales.monospaced
    • I guess you haven't been paying attention to the declining ipad sales?formed
    • I saw them. Even still they are numbers MS could only dream of.monospaced
    • iPad is a dying product, hence why they are releasing their 'Surface' product soon.fadein11
    • You're basing that on only speculation. Surface sales are a tiny fraction of the iPad. Apple announced no new large iPad either.monospaced
    • it's coming bro... just you wait - all my predictions come true.fadein11
    • Cool. I'm not saying it's not. Only that it's pretty much speculation only. Kinda like the Apple TV set that was surely coming.monospaced

Opinion: Apple might be a money maker, but it's behind the curve on almost all of its products

    http://www.marketwatch.com/story…

    • Clickbait article. Apple fails because they are in a lawsuit against Qualcomm. Funny.ArmandoEstrada
    • I don't dislike Apple. They are a safe, conservative choice. Quality products.since1979
    • Can't argue that they're the most cutting edge. Really never have except for a couple of brief moments. Product design is still the tits, for the most part.monospaced
    • Today they jumped 6%, though. $$$!monospaced

    FROM THIS

    TO THAT

    • God, I hate this mouseinv
    • the mouse feels like 10 poundshotroddy
    • A heavy mouse is good for accuracy and fine movement. That's why I use a heavy Logitech. This Apple mouse is not tall enough for me.monospaced
    • Uncomfortable in the handmonospaced
    • to avoid 2 finger click you have to lift one of your finger.... ughhh i have to lift my finger?!?!?!pango
    • Best mouse around. No more carpel tunnel for me.set

    • 16 years. No, 12 years.monospaced
    • Does anyone think that will sell? I am surprised they don't offer OS X (and follow MS's path). Maybe they are just slow (as usual).formed
    • Not sure where you got this info but Apple did not announce a large iPad.monospaced
    • Yes, they did...set
    • they did, a month after this post :)monospaced

touchscreen for professionals is the worst idea ever.

who wants their big fat fingers and hand obstructing 40% of your design viewspace?

    • professionals are a tiny part of Apple's business.fadein11
    • Aren't they just trying to make everyone a designer like everyone's a fucking rock musician in their shitty ads?MrT

Touchscreen on Desktop/Laptop is a TERRIBLE idea, which you'd know if you'd spent any amount of time trying it and which is probably why MS are having to backtrack with Win10's non-tablet interfaces.

if you've got some light single-handed tablet device, touchscreen is obviously better than a keyboard or a mouse.

I'm no AppleFanboy, but you seem to have entirely ignored all the improvements they've made to gestural multitouch and how big their trackpads have gotten over the past few years. They're assholes at Apple, not idiots.

    • I suspect Apple will lead the way in pairing tablets with 'real' computers - creating secondary, quite intelligent, interface formats for your favourite appsdetritus
    • Totally agree... i've used my ex windows touch screen and it was pointless. i couldn't imagine trying to use it to actually create anything on.necromation
    • detritus, your prediction is reality no later than 2012's MS Surface launch.mekk
    • That's not quite what I meant, mekk - I was more thinking a 'Photoshop App' that sits on your tablet and allows slider control, etc.
      ...
      detritus
    • MS did moot SmartGlass a while back, but I'll be damned if I've seen it promoted or out in the wild.
      ...
      detritus
    • Apple have a more coherent ecosystem and better handle on integrative software design (imho) than MS.

I mean Jesus, have you used Win8?
      Woeful.
      detritus
    • MS showed a concept demo of that glass surface but never developed or released any tech. It was just an idea and it was never real.monospaced

Apple's disgracefully outdated Mac lineup is killing sales
Apple's Mac and MacBook lineup is, frankly, a disgrace. I can't think of another top-name brand demanding a premium price for hardware that is so outdated.

    • no fuckn shit, I'm currently using a macbook from 2013 and a tower from 2011, I can't fuckn code on an iphoneGeorgesII
    • Same here, whole office wants to buy new ones but rumors of a complete shiny new macbook pro is holding all of us back.mekk
    • yeah, new one without any ports lol, why are we even waiting,GeorgesII
    • remember the days when jobs would introduce iphone, ipad, imac, and world's thinnest laptop all in one cycle.hotroddy
    • i thought i saw a rumor of one without function keys, and talk that it will run amd processors on peta pixeldeathboy

the only solution is one where you can manipulate what is on the screen without actually touching it

  • face_melter2

MacBooks I can sort of understand, but not on a desktop - no-one wants to stretch their arm out across a desk to touch a screen when the command is already at your fingertips.

Also: greasy fingerprints and smears, on *my* screen? Best come correct when you try that shit.

  • mathinc1

I hate when motherfuckers touch my screen. I would never be interested in touching my screen. DON'T TOUCH MY SCREEN!!!

    • can i touch your screen?beautiful
    • Hold on while I put this greasy hamburger down and proceed to touch your screen to point at something, since I simply cannot hover over it.ETM

apple failed with the S ranges... not enough variation year on year to keep me interested plus ios hasnt evolved since the gen 1 phone in any significant way... its locked in the mid 2000s in terms of ... well everything.

its like someone at apple said in 2005 this is the perfect phone lets never change it.

    • Sales don't lie. It's such a failure that nobody even buys them.monospaced
    • the phone wars is boring and a kinda dated argument these days. they all do the exact same shit no matter what you got.inteliboy

I had a dream a few years back that I was at work and my whole desk was the screen. It was angled up at the back towards me and I was working in photoshop, while standing up, using my hands on a desk sized touch screen.

    Want.

    • If you guys weren't so obsessed with Apple hardware you would have seen that such products are available for years in a lot of varieties.mekk
    • The fuck are you talking to? The fuck are you talking about? All round cunt over here.set
    • Like I don't know about surface hahset
    • I love you.mekk

Linus Torvalds recently suggested* that he figured one reason that ARM hasn't managed to significantly mess around with the Intel/x86 hegemony is that there isn't yet a preponderence of ARM-based platforms that people actually use as day to day machines, developing and creating on. Devs still use x86-based platforms to create, be it for x86 itself, ARM or anything else producible on a computer.

This sort of mirrors my own sentiments (read: mild jealousy) about the explosion of developer-centric apps and processes, much benefitting from the UNIX-like shell that took place on Apple over the past half/decade or so.

As a PC user, I've often been irritated by little widgets or single-function apps that get release on Apple today, and PC maybe tomorrow or, more likely, never.

As Balmer used to say: "Developers, Developers, Developers!"

That's not changed today, nor will any time soon.

    • Running a native Unix Shell & Adobe Creative simultaneously is what I need a mac for at work. No alternative :(mekk
    • to be fair apple took the most stable OS and profited off the back of it and made it one of the most unstable. I'd be a bit sore.mugwart

You see, a lot of you are foolishly thinking like Apple.

It's NOT about losing the mouse and keyboard and going all touch.... no. It's about Mouse/Keyboard AND touch.

It's not one or another... it's about BOTH.

    Cheers.

    • do you own a monitor wipe manufacturing company or something?timeless

Now that I've been thinking about it. A touchscreen iMac would be super nice cause I eat a lot of sausages during my work day, and if I could eat sausages and in between bites use them to touch my screen to work fuck yeah I think we just stumbled upon the trifecta of workflow greatness.
