Tornatore is filming a documentary on the great composer Morricone
Following the announcement at Cannes, Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore is now getting stuck into The Sight of Music, a 110-minute documentary about another Oscar winner, Ennio Morricone. The master of the arthouse score and his lesser-known aspects will be portrayed through archive film clips, interviews and fictional reconstructions of episodes that have peppered the artistic and personal journey of the great composer.
An artistic partnership has existed between Morricone and Tornatore since 1988, when the maestro composed the soundtrack to Cinema Paradiso, and this alliance has continued all the way until The Best Offer [+] (2013).
(The article continues below - Commercial information)
The movie, which has a budget of €2.7 million, is being co-produced by Piano B Produzioni, Tornatore’s own company, together with Bobby Păunescu, for Mandragora Group, which comprises the Romanian, French and US subsidiaries of Mandragora Movies. Păunescu told Film New Europe that he hopes to have the film ready in time for it to be selected for the next Cannes Film Festival in May 2016.

Pretty good.

This deserves its own thread.

Great Film. He says he is going to do 2 more films, then Q. is going to start writing novels and Stage plays. You can see how he is headed in that direction. Almost the entire film is shot in a single room, along the same lines as 12 Angry Men.

Enjoyed it very much. Although it felt like it was missing some of that classic tension he does so well. I agree with toemaas. Very much like a play.

Ill copy paste my 2 reviews here:
Just finished Hateful Eight. This film has no humanity to it. Just an exercise in neo-realistic dialog with boring characters and a boring premise. In one week I went from idealistic futurism (star wars) to a dreadful trip through hell. Tarantino's version of clue... And less entertaining.

I hated the Hateful 8. It was the worst movie I viewed all year. It was shockingly bad... the characters were not memorable, the humor childish, it had shit editing, the photography was bland for 70mm... just not my thing. Roth's imitation of Waltz was terrible and the constant blizzard audio loop? Torture.
Tarantino really trolled the Weinsteins with this one. That they brought it out in Christmas was even poorer in taste.
- Really, the cinematography is bland? I haven't seen this yet, but I'm curious, as Richardson's work is typically some of the best out there.nb
- he tried to shoot a stage play in 70mm, that in itself is erroneous. the outdoor stuff looked ok to me.docpoz
- it bothered me that they were in a "huge snowstorm" and the hills/mountains in the background had very little or no snow on them.robotron3k
- Agree. A who-done-it.teh

I didn't hate it completely but don't think the film really added up to the masterpiece Tarantino seemed to think it was judging by the incredibly long runtime and grandiose treatment.
The idea of a minimalist Western shot all in one location had potential, but the "mystery" just wasn't that interesting. It was three hours of talking, half an hour of violence (which basically just consisted of people shooting each other in a small room) and then over without much suspense or payoff. I woud definitely recommend The Revenant over Hateful 8.
- nononono, you this was incredible. revenenant was great too, so was clockwork orangeMiguex

Visually and storywise 'The Revenant' is a masterpiece. I'm getting tired of Tarantino's his Niche film making. Acting was also pretty weak.

yeah, have to say, forgetful film. had lot's of promise, started out as an almost classic, but ended like Res Dogs. I really wanted to like it because I love westerns and Ennio. but what's the point of 70mm when everyone ends up in an enclosed space?? plus big waste of acting talent. sadly he looked desperate to put this one in the can.

i thought it was a pretty solid slow burn, gorgeous in 70mm and a nice departure from tarantino's last few, which are admittedly much more innovative films but to repeat their tempo in this atmosphere would have been a mistake.
his sweeping, long cut shots of the mountain passes and the time it takes to get to and from places is as much a nod to the hat of time lapse as cinema can afford, and the old west had plenty of time to lapse, which makes the spontaneous acts of violence and building tension even more astute.

Shooting 70mm out in a foot of snow is a monumental feat in itself. Imagine having a huge crew out there while keeping the snow pristine. It's a pure cinematic film, and a breath of fresh air from modern films. My gripe about it would be gratuitous violence, and the need to bring back slavery and the N word any chance he gets.
- I sound own. I'm going to make a great crotchety old parent!instrmntl

- he def relies on shocking blood and guts to create emotional tension in all his films.robotron3k
- Shot in letterbox. A nice who-done-it with a typical QT ending.teh
- nb0
What are you guys talking about "letterbox"? I thought letterbox was when they put black bars on VHS tapes and early DVDs so that people could watch the widescreen (original) aspect ratio at home on their old 4:3 TVs.
- I think you mean anamorphic, which allows for higher quality image capture on the film, if your goal is a very wide ratio.nb

This film need Danny Trejo.

Resevoir Dogs is entertaining enough. Pulp Fiction is a modern classic, and will stand the test of time. Jackie Brown is not bad. Kill Bill is good fun, nothing too original. Django Unchained is a bit boring, more of a genre picture, nothing special.
But, Inglourious Basterds is a masterpiece of modern cinema, one of the greatest films of our time. I could go on and on about it. It is near perfect, if not perfect.
So, if he makes a few duds or even just does nothing good for the rest of his life, I'm still going to put him as one of the best writer/directors. Inglourious Basterds, it's his masterpiece.

Woud Tarantino ever make a film without the word Nigger in it? Would he ever do a sci-fi or step out of the box that he has made for himself? That's what I want to know.
Apparently he's doing 2 more films and quitting.
