Is anyone involved in PR? Its an aspect of marketing ive never worked in and i have some questions that would really help me understand the field like:
* Do you call journos up before you send a release
* Dont you piss them off when you call cuz they must get inundated
* Are there any tips for getting a release acceptedthanks

my ex used to worked in PR. She would typically send a release to as many relevant markets as she could, and would call up key properties to pitch the story.

The most successful PR-ists i've known constantly network, schmooze and generally whore themselves around the media. To them, lunching is a sport they are very good at.
It's a long to medium term game and generally can't provide a quick fix. This is essentially due to a PR-ists value being in the connections they have.
Most media has a 'forward features' list which is available for both journos and PR-ists to look at to see when features regarding certain subjects are going to be published.
If your product/service/news is relevant to any of these features you stand a much better chance of getting picked up. Journos are lazy, if you can do their jobs for them they will love you. It's not what you know, it's who you know and stay relevant.

Have you watched shows like Good Morning America or read a 2nd tier newspaper? Those will air or publish just about anything. I'm sure they get "paid" features too.

PR-focused companies = scum.
I try not to deal with PR companies as they tend to want potential suppliers to drop everything for them, do most of the PR's work and development for them without acknowledgement, then pretend the budget for their AAA clients is inconsequential.
I've been fairly close to adding a 'no PR company enquiries, please' notice on my site, but realise that would look completely dickish to other companies, such as marketing or advertising ones, whose services overlap with PR.
I'm not here to do your work so you can get the credit for it, then line your own pockets with the vast amounts of money these companies tend to have thrown at them.
Cunts.
They're at the top of the list of lying for a living.
.
imho, obv.
