    Lol at corporate slavery.

The basic principles of free market is that YOU the consumer/ individual is free to do anything. If it doesn't work for you it's because you are not skilled nor intelligent to capitalize on system.

Does it have it's flaws? Sure.. but it's the best idealogical and political system to live in.

    Laissez faire bitches.

    • there's a big flaw in your rant, the individual is not free to do anything, you are basically just free to do as told, exit that path and see how free you areGeorgesII
    • I have to agree with GII. you are free to the extent the parameters allow. but at a time when your rights are stomped you have more sexual independence.yurimon
    • there are little things that help create some illusion of a great freedom.yurimon
    • http://ecx.images-am…yurimon
    • who is telling you to do that you are told? Try living in a totalitarian state (theocratic or communistic) and see how much freedom you have.hotroddy
    • ever played monopoly?Milan
    • monopoly is a problem. I agree. But that's why you have anti-trust.hotroddy
    • I would like to be bought out by a monopoly - but fortunately Most business are small and independent.hotroddy
    • its bit more scientific and subtle then the in your face idea. I would say the servants took over the mansion as the metaphor if dealin with the us,yurimon
    • I dont think anti trust works that much. if you look at standard oil. it was just broken into parts still owned by the same person.yurimon
    • Lulz at you guys arguing about the free market vs central planning as if those things even exist in practice.nb
    • they all exist in practice.hotroddy
    • All at the same time, every time.nb
    • What I mean is, every economy is a mixed economy, and always has been.nb
    • NB popping soap bubbles out here. Yea the US is run like a corporation. Laissez faire for the little guy. Get some real money and you can run the country to refgilgamush
    • Reflect your private interest. At which point the strongest competitor and or best product means didly squat. Only who has the most money/backinggilgamush
    • that's basically every culture in historyscarabin
    • scar is prob right. just a question of people maybe putting up with or participation.yurimon
    • You are forgetting one key element - debt. Capitalism is now built on debt, from the top to the bottom and at an individual level this is where freedom isfadein11
    • removed from the equation.fadein11

George - If you could live in each system - which would allow greatest freedom?

    1. United States - Capitalistic - Based on principals such as Adam Smith and freidman

    2. Venezuela, Cuba - based on communistic principals

    3. Iran - theocratic principals

    4. north korea - based on 2 + 3 combined.http://i.telegraph.co.u...

Which population lives with greatest freedom?

    • I think on bases of expression, def US. you still have people paying the price for speaking out. . I think its a hybridized a bit.
      on federal level its cronyism
      yurimon
    • You have 40% of the economy is taken over by gov. its increasing. I think out of 1 employee gov. economy losses some jobs.yurimon

Fuck knows why i'm getting into this debate, nevertheless...

HotRod, the last time you visited your local deli store have you noticed the wall of soft drinks in the fridges? Are you aware all those drinks are made by ONE corporation? So you get a choice of dozen drinks but they all come from the same place. You can say at least you have that choice as opposed to 4 drinks in a communist regime but under communist regime people don't walk around harping about how "free" they are.

And as to your "which system you want" question - well, it all depends. If i was sick i wouldn't want to be in the US as i would never know if the sickness will force me into bankruptcy. If i wanted generally quality food - all but capitalist (unless i was into extreme organic as organic movement develops mainly in systems rotten by capitalism). If i wanted good social safety i would pick a socialist country (mothers getting plenty of rest after childbirth, this kind of stuff). If i wanted quality entertainment i would pick social democracy such as France or Germany with rich cultural traditions. The ONLY category where capitalism shines is straight up business - that is if i wanted to run my business i would go with a system like in US.

    • there has to be defined attributes of what makes someone free vs slave.yurimon
    • or voluntary servitude. most known aspect in the past that differentiated a free person vs a serf was tax on your labor. it was known that you own your time andyurimon
    • your labor. it was not touchable because when you own something no one can touch it under a rights of property system.yurimon
    • So how can someone apply fees to things you own like land, and labor for its use if you really own it.? not talking tax on commerce. like sales tax. thats ok.yurimon
    • time n labor was also seen as a transfer. nothing is gained. you transfer your time in exchange for something. you lose time for money. its a transfer if youyurimon
    • own your time and doesnt count as a gain or income.yurimon
    • ludicrous on so many levels...fadein11

@PR2 - Every time I visit a local deli store I'm grateful with how stocked the grocery store is. It's literaly bursting at the seems. I'm also grateful I don't have to stand in line for very long too.

The US cannot afford the socialism you enjoy in Canada or in European countries. The vast majority of the population is under educated and if you could easily end up with 'tropical' socialism.

Currently in Venezuela you line up for 6 hours to get 1 product. All the shelves are empty. Thanks to well intentioned socialism.

It's no coincidence that America is a leader in innovation despite the fact that the gab between the rich and poor (or educated/ undereducated) is larger than in any other first world county. Convincing the middle class that they will be better off with socialism when they see how many freeloaders would milk the system is a tough sell.

    • debt based money system n big government go hand in hand, leads to socialism/fascism. they see small biz or independent people as competitionyurimon
    • free people are a threat because of the realization of how much you need them in your life n bullshit of security. key is to foster imbalance in individualsyurimon
    • n destroy the family so you can have more institutional dependence, gov economy keeps growing. borrow more, banks, corps are happy at your expense.yurimon
    • have laws that make it hard for small business to hire. like obamacare. create bureaucracy.yurimon
    • It's sad but true. Yuri, you hit the nail on the head. Very unpopular things to talk about in the face of social reform and so called justicegilgamush
    • What fucking socialism in European countries lol? - the United States of Europe is as capitalist as the US... jesus.fadein11
    • innovation? expand please.fadein11
    • It's not the people at the bottom milking the system, it's the ones at the top. Venezuela simply doesn't have enough money for the top dogs to be filthy richzarkonite
    • AND take care of the rest. So they choose to let the rest suffer and die.zarkonite

I have a choice to try make a soft drink company or corner shop and get aggressively outpriced by Coca Cola/Walmart or not (they'll run at a loss until I'm gone). I have a choice to not pay taxes that will be spent on military bullshit and ruin my life. I have a choice to put my money in a bank account and drip feed them my money or stick it under a mattress where it'll depreciate rapidly. I have a choice to buy a house big enough for a family and never afford to go travelling again.

..and I'm still lucky to have these choices because I'm an educated white person, compared to many who really live just treading water.

Yes, we are free to choose. This is capitalism - the only people really free to choose are the rich and powerful. I love capitalism, but it needs a lot more limits to give the 99% any real freedom.

    • You also have the choice not to shop at wallmart. But your choice to save $$ is stronger than your choice to buy americanhotroddy
    • And that's the problem with capitalism...it appears to be based on rational choice but people don't act in their long term interests.yuekit
    • those are values you talking aboutyurimon
    • capitalism favours individual freedoms. so yes - it doesn't benefit the 'whole'. Is it ruining the planet? yes.. but you might as well accelerate our demise.hotroddy
    • its values and responsibility.yurimon
    • Good convo in heregilgamush
    • yuekit but people dont act for the good of others either, they act in their own benefits and usually short term if in power. its not a problem with capitalismdeathboy
    • its a "problem" with people. check the idea of what is the problem and how has this problem benefited people. survival is never pretty always gonna be winnersdeathboy
    • and losers. at least capitalism is true democracy in which winners and losers can be chosen on merit outside political BSdeathboy
    • I think it's the dynamic between the different groups (government, corporation, etc) that matters. Think of it as competing powers balancing each other out.yuekit
