Did you know houses in Sweden have a built-in vacuum cleaning system? They don't use vacuum clears like in other countries. You have a socket in each room and only attach the tube to it.
- Pretty standard here, tooGnash
- That's nothing, I have programmed a swarm of drones to 'fan' up dust particles and collect them in an old sock.shapesalad

Drove down to Pittsburgh last weekend and was so weirded out by helmet-less motorcyclists.
One dude was riding next to us on the highway doing 120 in an absolute downpour, I couldn’t see in front of me and he was pulling up next to truck’s rain wake and wasn’t even flinching. Oh and he also had a cigarette in his mouth. The most American thing ever, brought a tear to the eye.

I was Today Years Old when I learnt that the Irish flag essentially symbolises peace (the white band) between Protestants (orange) and Catholics (green).
https://www.gov.ie/en/publicatio…
https://www.irishcentral.com/roo…It's kind of cool.. but also a bit saddening. I feel.
- 'Saddening' as in all the flags in our little archipelago are all based on Christianity in one form or another.Nairn
- I feel.
lol
there should've been a preceding commaNairn - Not just in your archipelago, most of Europe I think_niko
- Not really. Just the vaguely Calvinist northern bits, weirdly.Nairn
- Maybe but there’s also Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta, Georgia, San Marino, etc that have Christian symbols as well_niko
- Hrm, I figured Spain and Portugal had more heraldic motifs, but you're right I suppose. Lol, yes, Greece and Switzerland, latter still CalvinistishNairn
- Never knew that. Now that I do, it looks like it represents peace as long as we keep them away from each other, which sounds about right. :Pmort_

- folks hoodwinked by religion, unionism or nationalism in ireland occupies so much of public and political discourse it doesn't seem like anything to celebratekingsteven
- The blue was introduced during King Henry VIII's reign? I'll stick with green thanks ;)mort_
- hah, henry the 8th was a catholic and green became associated with catholics in ireland during the english reformation (long after his reign)kingsteven
- when catholic land was seized and well, 200 years of revolution later some dolt at the GPO shat out the tricolour. there's not much more to it than that...kingsteven
- and in irish folklore green is unlucky. green and orange just represent two sides in a dispute between european royalty where ireland wasn't even importantkingsteven

This post by HijoDMaite : http://www.qbn.com/reply/3895819… reminded me of how surprised I was at the journey Hawaii has taken. I knew it was the result of some massive lava bubble that's moving Eastwards/South across the Pacific, but until recently I had no idea how far it had come. I tried the other week following its path backwards, but got a bit lost around Kamchatka somewhere.
I was trying to work out if it might've been the cause of the Siberian Traps lava plain (exciting little man that I am, this is how I fill my free-time...).
Anyway, it's interesting to see the path its taken over the eons..
- i find the little curl right of the ? arrow interesting, as if the plume met plates millions of years ago and melted it in before the plates moved on.detritus
- what makes you think it starts at the top?uan
- Kamchatka will forever in my mind be associated with
https://c1.staticfli…detritus - wow! the more you know in deed.renderedred
- @uan - not sure what you mean? The recent lava flows are all eastwards of Hawaii and it's 'known' that the lava plume is heading that way.detritus
- I've just followed the line of sub sea mounts back. i 'knew' the went about as far as the middle arrow, but was surprised to see it go so far North.detritus
- makes sense. I was just looking at the tectonic plates map and it's weird hawaii isn't at the edge of one but right in the middle of the pacific plate.uan
- Yeah, it's 'anomolous' in the context of plate tectonics. My belief is this is the same mechanic that created the Deccan and Siberian Traps...detritus
- ..but because of the weight and cooling of Pacific water, it's not been able to break out and cause millions of years of lava outpouring.detritus
- *shrug* but wtf do i know?detritus
- The islands were created by a "hot spot" in the earth's mantle. Essentially it's an area where magma flows upwards, so the tectonic plate is actually movingzarkonite
- towards the northwest, giving the illusion that the islands are moving south east.zarkonite
- @detritus & zarkonite, you guys are on the right track. better explanation -> https://www.youtube.…dorf

Apparently Canadians call full fat milk 'homo milk'? flol.
