If you are crying over departure of Jon Steward... don't kid yourself. I worked for the guy a few times and each time was appalled that majority of the workforce I worked along consisted of unpaid interns. Sure there was a host (I shot a few comedy sketched with his co-hosts) and the producer (who i'm sure was getting paid) and an "army" of interns. I couldn't put two and two together until one day it struck me - it's a charade. This liberal leftist portrayal of carrying about liberal and democratic values was an act (after all its SHOW business!) acutely designed to play into hands of its liberal and democratic viewing public. It's not about equality or justice (or whatever other positive values you might think JS stood for) but about entertaining the public with a very specific taste. As such he wasn't so different then his "nemesis"- Bill O'Reilly - neither probably give two hoots about the actual values (whether liberal democracy or conservative republicanism) as long as their target viewer groups keep on believing they do.
Was JS funny - yes, though for me the laughter came through the tears of realizing that no celebrity - including the leftist ones - really believes in what they are preaching - it's all a pre-determined act to find them their ally public.
- I appreciate you mentioning Bill and John together... you are very right to do so... ... it's all show biz. :(PonyBoy
- oh yeah? but what about reality TV..? don't tell me it's fake too...Miguex

- I respectfully disagree that Jon Stewart did it all for show. You can't honestly think he didn't believe in what he was preaching do you?kona
- ... do you? From my point of view it's rather easy to see he not only believes it, but he lives and breathes it.kona
- LOL pr2 you work in the industry and you just found out what showbusiness is? and you think nobody else knows???eighteen

What's intersting is that for a while, rumors were converging that Vice was going to have a nightly news show on HBO, and that Stewart was going to be involved.

Fans post a farewell letter to Jon Stewart... on Trump's website via a hack.

He worked at Trenton City Gardens and waxes lyrical about his love of punk and hardcore. The guy's alright.

Yeah, it's too bad we fell the need to "weigh in" and pull apart everything, we judge people on their worst and refuse to forgive or let anything go.
I think most people for a long time have felt that their opinion is soooo important, like they're entitled to be offended or excited and that their opinion matters. Of course, it's not true. They don't matter.
Sadly, these days Twitter and social media are validating these opinions as relevant. A major shift was when the shitty-news (most media outlets) started to report on what people were saying on Twitter.
I mean, when you see CNN report something like "GatorFan1973 had this to say on Twitter....", how can we expect people to not feel entitled to an opinion? We're just encouraging everyone to speak up without thinking. It is this very act that has now gotten Trevor Noah into trouble: speaking publicly without pausing to think. And now, what do we do as a group? We open up Twitter and add to the noise.
Twitter and other social media is amazing and great and I'd never want to go back to the time before it. Unfortunately, it often pushes us, as a group, towards the mind-numbing average.

Prediction: He's getting his own show on HBO. HBO to do daily news (kinda like John Olivers but ever day rather than the weekend). You heard it here first ;P

@pr2,
say whatever you want I will still cherish him, because he says exactly what I want to hear, because he's so smart and make fun of those cookie repubs and dems and also because he was the funniest jew left on tv.. (are you an antisemite btw???)
now if he wants to hire unpaid interns, that's his problem, don't you know that when you pay someone, they become less funny... and the economy is booming so they don't have to work for him if they don't want to,
it's not like you're going to ask al gore not to fly in extremely polluting private jet to attend his busy global warming events all around the world,
so why they to bring down the Stewarts,
don't be a hypocrite m8
- are you being sarcastic?monospaced
- He called people stupid for listening to him like news. He wasnt so funny. meh. funny when he came out for the time but stale once you realize the culturalyurimon

so a comedian can't host a comedy show because he said some jokes that not everyone found OK
fuck this country sometimes
- PonyBoy1
Comparing him to Cronkite shows you how far-fucked up a society / reality is these days... get a fucking grip... it's a comedian's viewpoint (along w/his plethora of writers... 30+... this is not one man)...
... blah blah blah... GET A GRIP, dorks. If you looked at his schtick as 'news' then you are lost.
btw... LOVED the show... LOVED his view and opinions... BUT THIS WAS NOT A NEWS SHOW. Not even close. :)
- Cronkite didn't have a staff to help him?omahadesigns
- what made this show popular was the fact that it has more credibility than a lot of new shows out thereMiguex
- yes, it's a comedy show, but to to say this is a news show, is not that far off these days.Miguex

It seems Trevor, the replacement, might not be the replacement any more because of some borderline jokes from a few years back - the internet's gone batshit crazy!

This new guy strikes me as a reasonable guest and occassional fill-in but in no way does he come across as someone that could front the show.
Am I wrong?

I wonder if John Stewart is being forced to resign because of what he said about the Ferguson verdict. He basically dropped the comedy act and said that society is crumbling, it wouldn't be surprising if the gov't pulled some strings to shut him up.
- I doubt it. He had the show for a very long time, and he's old. Makes perfect sense to retire on top.nb
- he announced on howard stern a long time ago, he was just tired and was looking to do something new.Miguex
