My big takeaway from this trailer is that it's now some kind of horror film, and for me that's a huge problem. The original film, which I consider one of my favorites, I never considered horror. I always thought of it primarily as a family movie that happens to include a heavy dose of fiction. Sure, a guy hallucinates his face melting, and there are some scary moments here and there, especially for young children, but it was always sorta fun in that Spielberg kind of way.

For the most part remakes are only good for the novelty and you forget them immediately after they come out. I guess it's the nature of the film industry these days that you take a safe bet on a proven brand (whether remake or endless superhero sequels) rather than risking on a new idea.

it's hard to watch a safe, predictable remake trailer of a classic after freshly seeing birdman. creating something amazing and breaking new ground is still possible.

The trailer actually looks a lot better than I thought it would be but I'm a little bit disappointed they didn't use an little old freaky lady again. I'm glad they kept the clown part in there. Also I won't have to explain this shirt I've been wearing for the past few years to anyone under 35 anymore.

The original is full of awe and mystery, creepiness, and batshit absurdity. This one looks like it's all jump scares.

Retelling or reimagining stories is as old as storytelling itself.
