"The Hundreds is the world’s first social merchandising company. Now in its 10th year, the global brand is a 2-part lifestyle project that houses both a clothing line and online-magazine."

different mediums = different approach - the idea of a page flip, zoom and click interface is terrible for an ecommerce site

Most shops will have a grid layout because their site will be responsive to work on mobiles.
Doing fancy non-grid shenanigans like a magazine layout will be hard to achieve when a page has to respond to browser/platform size.

I think its a horrible idea to have all the bells and whistles of a magazine for an online shop. But for the same reason I hate putting magazines into that goddamn awful page flip type software. Its the fucking web people, its ok to have different experiences online and offline.
However, if they want some like of online catalogue, I've seen decent ones on z-mags (look at the digital catalogs section). But these are really taking a magazine, adding a layer of interactivity and pushing it out as another publication, not a stand alone shopfront.
I think your own best judgement and experience is important here, while the client might want a catalogue for a website, is it the best solution for customers or would they become easily frustrated and bored. If so, thats a lost sale.

As per my post above, another company who has attempted to blend content with products (scroll down) - works well as example I posted above.

If you mean literally a magazine layout - I have no examples - why would you do that on the web? Its a different medium.
But the idea of blending content / products with crossover is interesting.
