Any suggestions? Flying into Milan and need to make my way to Prague, thinking of headings east instead of west. Hidden gems welcome!

Belgrade, quite possibly the best party town in eastern Europe.

Vienna is in between, great city, art and party scene, but not eastern europe.

It depends of you are looking for cities or something more adventurous/outdoors and how much time/money you have
if I was you and had the time I would travel down the coast of Italy to Bari and get the boat to Patras in Greece (or ferry from venice to Patras) and travel up through Greece via Albania, Montenegro (maybe Kosovo if I had time), Bosnia, Slovenia, and through Austrian Alps to Prague.
I'd suggest you skip Croatia
The slovenian Alps are amazing but skip Lake Bled and go further North to Bohinj
We had a amazing time in Bosnia - such an intense history e.g. standing on the Bridge where Franz Ferdinand got shot and World War 1 kicked off from and the train from Sarajevo to Mostar was one of the best in Europe.
Other obvious eastern places would be Budapest (not that pleasant anymore especially when you encounter British stag parties - same in Prague), Krakow etc.
- Bosnia sounds amazing.futuremongolian
- Did you try the chevapi or burek in Bosnia?
http://www.mileswrit…Milan - yep - I was a vegetarian at the time but had to try local foods. the people were super friendly. we loved that holiday there.lowimpakt
- Sweet! I'm glad you had a good time. I was born in Bosnia.Milan

Kiev was a blast until this shit started. I can recommend Riga and Vilnius, Riga better for partying. Budapest is also a very nice city. Avoid Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania. Full of poverty and just not a good place to be, sadly. Nice landscapes anyway. If you have the time, Istanbul is worth it!

of course, Istanbul.
Scrap everything, skip prague alltogether and get train/boats from Milan through Greece to Istanbul

wow, thanks for the great response!!! Going to research all these suggestions.
Some more info:
So I'm going to have 10 days to stay somewhere. before heading to Prague. Typically I like to stay in one city, and one hang in one neighbourhood. Not looking for outdoors too much, mostly just bumming around a hood, where I can do work on my laptop then easily have a time if I want. Weirder and cheaper is best.

I want to visit eat europe,
but I'm black :(
- Being black is fine. It's Albanians that eastern Europeans are allergic to.Continuity
- ooooh, I feel better then :)GeorgesII
- yup, gypsy is the european blackmekk
- You can't visit eat europe because you're fat, Georgie!raf
- I know an albanian woman who said yes, she came to US to get away from being treated like shit in europevaxorcist

Prague and Budapest, both lovely cities.
I haven't been to Croatia yet but its on the list, looks stunning.

Wrocław, Poland. Fairly large city with pre-WW2 German/Czech heritage (this translates as "some architectural gems of 20's modernism").
An equally short train/bus ride from either Prague or Berlin, or a direct Ryanair flight from Milan. You could fly there, then head down south to Prague.
Fun city and not half as polluted with Brit stag parties as Kraków :)I visit there often, can recommend most convenient parts of the city for accommodation and places to see. If I happen to be there, this means QBN drinks!

Prague sucks! I was there 2 weeks ago. It's full of old tourists and drunk stag parties. The beer is good and cheaper than water though, if that's what you're into. The food sucked too, I don't think they ever heard of vegetables.
Belgrade is better.

Prague was boring, go to Vienna instead.
- I here Ukraine is all the rageorganicgrid
- I love Vienna, I wanna move thereMilan

So I should just fly out of prague and spend my two weeks elsewhere, that's the consensus?
- Ya, 2 days in Prague is more than enough. Check out Vienna if you haven't been.Milan
