I think it's early days yet...
You can definitely see everyone in the gym wearing the sport ones - running 'n checking their watch every 2 minutes. I see plenty of people running up the road with the iPhone strapped to their arm like it's a "must have".
I remember when the first iPod came out and most people around me didn't even notice or know what the first iPod was. Now look a few years down the line... every other person on the undergound has to be plugged in to some kind of mp3 player, white cables, big beats earphones, etc.
Any excuse to separate ourselves from others, even though everyone believes their online being "social".
At first, the price of the original iPod was considered a lot for "just a music player'. But then it spread in popularity. People saw the benefits. Then came the slimmer versions, the shuffles and of course the apps.
So I think it's early days. The first iteration will pave the way to newer, smaller, more bio metric measuring features, more merchandising, more ties, "Oh look I can turn the lights down and the temperature of my fridge", etc and so it goes on. I'm sure there will plenty of integration in the future.

I'll wait for the matte screen version.

Yeah, they'll probably shoehorn in yet another artificial consumer need with these. Let's see, what to buy... *sigh*... ooh, a "smart-watch". I... kinda... sorta... vaguely... want one of these.

What people said when the iPod launched:
"Great just what the world needs, another freaking MP3 player. Go Steve! Where's the Newton?!"
"I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!"
"Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!"
"All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off."
- yeah but buying a specific phone so I can use it with a designated watch is kinda overkillGeorgesIV
- More people own iPhones or iPads than any other phone or tablet in existence.monospaced

I think the one with the metal links looks quite nice, if you like that sort of thing. I can definitely also see the appeal of the sport one...
How much are they, $20k?

@kingkong
iPod sales are in decline.
As the quote says, It was just another Mp3 player.
the hype didn't sustain and now all we have millions of iPods polluting landfills.
- playing devils advocatelowimpakt
- the iPod is in decline because iPhone replaced it.ESKEMA
- The iPod was replaced by something Apple made. Not because people started to like them less than other players.Jaline

Keep in mind women have the least practical clothing and can rarely fit their phones into their pockets, if there are any pockets at all. So vibrations and such would work much better with a watch on. The phone is normally in a purse and it's much harder to feel the vibrations. I also hate having to fumble around and get my phone out each time I want to do something. It doesn't always slip out with ease like taking a phone out of a pocket does. The winter wardrobe change will help.

- Still wonder how people manage to live, without portable cell phones, before it existed.ApeRobot

- Well, of course.Jaline
- So you are saying they will replace their phones with a watch? They carry purses, you know. Phones fit in there easily.cannonball1978
- But it'd be nice to be able to not carry a purse like most men. It's easy to say "first world problem" when you have the option.Jaline
- option.Jaline
- No, cannonball. I mean that we often can't feel our phones vibrating, so a watch could work really well for notifications.Jaline
- And I wouldn't need to take my phone out most of the time.Jaline

So what's the different vs. Samsung (and others)?
I fail to see the relevancy of the conversation, honestly. It looks almost identical to the Samsung. Samsung is running Android, which the majority of the world likes, unlike the first MP3 players that didn't have a great user interface.
I see them doing ok with teenagers, maybe a few gadgets addict, for the first round. Down the road, when companies discover more specific markets, then some will do well (waiting for someone to make a good fitness one...so far, Fitbit is still king).
I think next round these watches will be something interesting. Right now, I don't think many will take a $350+ watch to the gym (I only see a few iPhones when I go, and they are always in bullet proof cases...a watch ain't gonna last long in a gym!). Most won't run with something that large/heavy, too, certainly not mtn bike.
Good status gift for a teenager, though, just like calculator watches were when I was 12. Maybe I'll get my nephew one for xmas.
- The brand on it, the price for it.ApeRobot
