I’ll be buying a few more batteries for the solar array and getting the garden started early this year methinks. Thankfully just got generator serviced and a full load of wood for the next year or two
- LiFePO₄? Deep cycle is ‘spensive but the only way IMHO.cannonball1978

- IF you want to live on a river, find land or an existing property on a river. Rural internet (getting better these days) and a power line and you're good-to-go.ideaist

I have a 20' shipping container I'm converting to a solar cabin in the hills outside Healdsburg, CA.

- Sounds sweatymonospaced
- Bastard! So jellyGnash
- hell yesbezoar
- Document it!scarabin
- I will and share. Doing the framing atm and installing solar powered fans on the baffles to fix the sweaty factor. If anything, its freezing at night.cannonball1978

Amazon is now selling prefabricated modular mobile container homes for $99k & free shipping.
- I like a nice prefab but I'm struggling with 'Amazon' and 'off the grid' in the same sentence...MrT
- free shipping. damnGnash
- Something sad about living in a container, I dont know whydrgs
- do I get it in 2 days with prime?zarkonite
- Estonian company https://qhaus.eu/cli…microkorg
- Well, it looks nice. Doesn‘t look like a container. I like it. But you still must own land, yes? HeheNBQ00
- I don't think that house is Amazon ...atomholc

This paired with an EV truck would be pretty sweet.

so much noise, again, around my apartment. I want to live in a forest badly right now.

living off-grid is appealing, but the whole tiny houses thing i don't get. where's your workshop? where do you do things? where do you store your shit? it seems awesome if you're still in college and don't have any belongings and can't do things yet but at my age it seems like a massive step backward in terms of lifestyle
vacation cabin though? absolutely
- depends of the type of off grid you are. the tiny house movement is more about cutting down on stuff as means of freeing up time, and small home = lower bills.yurimon
- everyones motives is different but the most common comes from mobility, bills, time, outgoing lifestyle. the stuff you own own you type environmentalist ideal.yurimon
- there are off grid living on higher acreage who dont care about cutting down on size. may have a full house with storage, prep, workshops.yurimon
- ussually the of grid acreage type is more for preping type mentality, dyi self sustainability. grow your own food, supplies, be able to forfill your needs offyurimon
- the land, barter with neighbors, etc. security, etc.yurimon
- I don't usually agree with yurimon, but when I do, I still don'tmoldero
- 'Bin, have less shit. You don't need it.Peter

- looking great. nice pond :)Gnash
- what kind of wood are you using on the side? those look like one piece.Gnash
- the siding? its hemlock. super cheap. ripped down to ~2" wide strips. its rain sheathing, which old timers baulk at, but sounds like its pretty solid.hardhat
- front window framing is 8x2 pressure treated, so i didnt have to worry about fixing them when they rot.hardhat
- nicely done!scarabin
