Yes, often.
One of the most satisfying things when you work for yourself is knowing you can tell someone who causes you grief to just fuck off.

This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking clients.

Yes - some clients ruin your work / life.
- problem is when they become a regular client and then you realise what a ballache they are - harder to sack then.fadein11

I have a client who is a real pretentious douche and I want to fire him, but he does pay, so I let it slide and avoid contact with him as much as possible.

just trying to figure out how much of it was my fault. i'm taking most of the blame but usually it's never that cut n' dry. it's sucks b/c they are great. i'm all about the work they do. feeling crazy low today.
- the project management went south quick. and my ability to stay afloat was challenging.ohhhhhsnap

Shit can be worth tolerating if the pay's worth the sacrifice.
The trick then is to rigidly enforce domains and terms, so at least you can fend off their bullshit, or take it but charge them for it.
if it's a long-term client who's continually pissing you off, you need to plan ahead and work on replacing them.
Then you can enjoy the luxury of telling them to fuck off... going in to detail should you wish!

Dropped a client after the 4th meeting that he again didn't take notes of and repeated his amendments from every meeting we had.

No, never have "fired" a client. If you are getting paid for your time, you are getting paid.
I've certainly not accepted their "negotiations" before, which they then didn't start the work, but that's before they are a true client.
If I know someone is a pain, I'll factor that in, but generally it is just client management - some are a good, some suck.
- breadlegz0
Yeah a few. If they just don't get it they have to go.
