Should be interesting to see if we get Colbert the character, or Colbert the man.

Craig Ferguson just made 5 million smackeroos...

Thanks, Obama!

They picked someone who is actually funny. I dont believe it.

Interesting! I bet he will drop the "fake Republican" persona though, I don't see how that could really work.

i guess colbert makes sense - i agree with ukit though, there's no way the persona stays. which is kind of a bummer because that's part of the reason why he's so appealing. it'll be interesting what he does with the time slot / responsibility to be more broadly comedic.

He's going to have to learn how to let people talk, that's for sure.
One of the reasons I don't watch him much at all is that every time he interviews someone, it's just an exercise in seeing how little he can let that person talk. There's just so much interrupting and talking over guests to get some quip in before they even finish a sentence. Really turned me off after I realized how regularly it happens.

Obviously, he'll change his personality a little. Colbert has been living as a fake version of himself for nine years. He's a professional. He'll be great. The network isn't taking any risks. Their target market 30-49 loves Colbert no matter what he does. Over the years, Colbert will become less and less funny, but his audience will grow old with him. At some point, in 10-15 years he'll be replaced by someone that the 30-49 year-olds of that time think is fresh and hip.

the colbert show persona is for the colbert show. why keep insisting he has to drop it? no shit! would still be funny if he didn't though. who cares about what celebrities think anyways.
- tank020
Make sense, the right wing persona was talking over his career.
Lets see how this plays out. Curious who will replace him on Comedy Central.

Yeah! I mean, Colbert has RANGE. He sings, he dances, his eyebrows are practically articulate enough to be an appendage.
I think it's probably time for him to move on from the Colbert persona.
I wonder if they'll call it the Late Show with Stephen Colber*t*
- They should let Letterman host the Colbert Report for a while.nb
- Or at least keep the name. "The Colbert Report. With your host John Oliver."nb

I can't see Colbert standing up and doing a monologue about Kim K like the rest of those hosts do.
- he's more of a sitter, isn't he?sarahfailin

Here's John Stewart talking about it...seems to imply that he will do something different

I always thought the "surrealist" aspect of his humor was the best part anyway...the Bill O'Reilly (or whoever) impression got old after a while

What if the actual Stephen Colbert is a clone of comedian Steven Wright? That would RULE.

^ "It’s sort of like when people say, ‘Are we ready for a black president?’ And you say, ‘Well, Barack Obama — yes. Mr. T? Probably not as much.’ That being said, though, there are interesting dynamics you can bring in with more diverse voices.”
