Lightroom App Update Wipes Users’ Photos and Presets, Adobe Says they are ‘Not Recoverable’
This morning, multiple readers wrote in to alert us to a major Adobe gaffe. It seems the latest update to the Lightroom app for iPhone and iPad inadvertently wiped users’ photos and presets that were not already synced to the cloud. Adobe has confirmed that there is no way to get them back.
The issue first cropped up on the Photoshop feedback forums two days ago, when the Lightroom app on iOS was updated to version 5.4. A user named Mohamad Alif Eqnur posted asking why all of his photos, presets, and watermark data had been removed after updating to the most recent version through the iOS app store.
This was followed by replies from other users saying that the same thing happened to them, whether or not they were subscription based or free. One user posted to Reddit’s r/Lightroom subreddit saying that they had lost “2+ years of edits” after the update.
“I’ve talked with customer service for 4+ hours over the past 2 days and just a minute ago they told me that the issue has no fix and that these lost photos are unrecoverable,” wrote the user. “Adobe is unbelievable some times. All I got was a ‘we’re sincerely sorry’ and nothing else. 2+ years of photo edits just gone because of Adobe and all they give is a sorry, lmao.”
....
UPDATE 8/20/20: Adobe has posted a small update to the Adobe Help site. It’s largely the same as the statement shared above, but it re-clarifies that Lightroom on Android, the Desktop, and Lightroom Classic were not affected, and encourages users who lost data to try using iPhone or iPad backups to recover their work.

I was going to use Adobe Xd for responsive design, but it does not have a grid system to use, it been out a fucking year. I swear they must have a department of 4 people working on this app.

After NOT using Adobe apps for more than half a year, yesterday came the day when I needed to create a small animation and export to MP4 and apparently there's no other app to do that besides After Effects...
FUCK
- Erm.. Moho, Cavalry, https://www.synfig.o…shapesalad
- also you want to make a mov, pro res 4444, then use handbrake to convert to mp4.shapesalad
- no no just simple frame-by-frame UI stuff, I'm trying Keyshape now and it works okay https://www.keyshape…grafician
- Moho is for animation-animation from what I'm seeing, Cavalry looks very good (but damn $20 a month is a lot lol)
@shape thanks for the suggestions man!grafician - Ahem. Blender.orgmonNom
- ah i see, try this: https://www.svgator.…shapesalad
- Svgator looks good too, but can't export videos, instead will use it for website svg animations for sure!grafician
- After Effects can't export to mp4. You have to use Media Encoder which is probably the worst thing Adobe makes but it should be fine for simple projects.CyBrainX

^ Went with Animate (former Flash) and spent a day to animate a basic banner more or less.
After not using Adobe for more than half a year, now I got a brand new 1 year subscription to Adobe's racketeering scheme
Oh well, calling their support in about a month and threaten to quit to get the discount at least
p.s. I also got RoughAnimator (https://www.roughanimator.com/) to re-balance the Universe somehow - btw highly recommended if you do frame/stop motion animation on the iPad Pro
pps thanks @shapesalad for your suggestions, you're a peach!
- I use Tumult Hype over Adobe Animate whenever I can. Also exports to video. Pro version costs less than two months of an Adobe sub.evilpeacock
- Still can't believe Ae doesn't export to animated gifgrafician
- @evilpeacock damn now you're talking?! lol
thanks! it looks better than Animate for sure...sighgrafician - A 300 frames animation (all vector, under 5 colors) in Animate exports to a 13MB gif
Oh wellgrafician - gif size is dependent on how many pixels change, unfortunately.monospaced
- @grafician Hype is great, had HTML animation way before Animate did. Is easier to work with, can batch export banner variations automatically, etc.evilpeacock
- @mono funny how it says "5.49MB" in Export window then the final file is like 13MB lol Adobe really lost itgrafician
- @evil yup might get it anyway for the toolkit
Supporting anybody than Adobe is a must these daysgrafician

Honest question:
How many professionals here have a LTL setup in a sandbox here that they find works better than CC?
- -minus one "here"garbage
- what is LTL?monNom
- I'm guessing LTL is "less than legit"evilpeacock
- Less than legal, but close. I thought it was a common acronym, but maybe it's just been an in-joke between me and colleagues for years.garbage

- Revenue and subscriptions were right as expected = no growth
Dropping $20B on Figma with low revenue (even if they had huge market share) was enough.grafician - Next Q gonna be a blood bath, start shorting now :))grafician
- A company that negotiates subscription fees over the phone basically bleeding money...
