This 7" was right up my street,
the B side offers advice on growing veg

It still amazes me that records like this can still turn up
    in charity shops for 50p

    I haggled the 5th, 7th and 4th Beatles fan club flexi's down
to a fiver for all 3 at a car boot at 7am

I was a 50p sucker for this Videodisc of Neil Young's classic
concert film, no I don't need it and no I can't play it, but it looks nice!

This 2 x 12" pack by The Avalanches was one of only
2 records I picked up at the record fair yesterday.

the other 1 was this old Mo Wax 10"

The oddest LP I found over the weekend was this
Deutsche Grammophon (promo?) in a record warehouse
sleeve, it's a kind of Christmas card album featuring
    The Nutcracker Suite

    • Good job on that Bo Diddleyscruffics
    • do you actually listen to all this shit? or just like collecting it?johnny_wobble
    • not to say it's all shit, as in bad, but this is a lot of random shit.johnny_wobble
    • I try to find samples on the spoken word stuff and just like collecting the vinyl no-one else does, y'know the shit!Gardener

Various 7" singles I have picked up in charity shops
and the odd indoor car boot when it has been raining,
which unfortunately has been quite often round here

Released to promote the 1982 World Cup and it is as
rubbish you know the team were/are, as anyone knows,
you don't win football hits sung by kids.

In the same box were these 3 x Oxford United FC singles,
each one released to celebrate a move up a division.

    1986

    1985

    1984

Other odds and ends which I think I must have paid 50p each for,
    otherwise no-one else would.

    Concorde vs. Spitfires

This has a good previously unreleased track called 'Jimi Hendrix's Strat' on the flip

One of Gene Vincent's last singles, released a few years after he died.

Classic theme to the original TV show

I thought this might be good but I didn't like it as much
as her tune 'Pillow Talk' it just isn't all that sexy really.

Odd BBC records I don't already have are always of interest (to me)

I do have a copy of this record by 80's TV fitness queen
Diana Moran aka The Green Goddess but now I have a
signed one, albiet dedicated to someone called Debbie

I am getting stricter in my old age by rarely paying over a £1
for anything I find in a field to add to my ever bulging racks.

This was a nice find, the guy actually said "thats rubbish,
what would you ever want that for?" it turned out to be pretty
good really with Blue n' Groovy and Green Onions standouts

From the same guy was this fag smoke smelling 50p gem from '69

Not sure if they are any good but I hadn't seen them before
and they were in good nick, and cheap

This looked like it was literally unplayed! I am prepared to break it in

    some 50p singles

I picked this Wombles 7" up for the cute insert with
it's incredible prize offer, I tried Googling any images
of The Wombles on top of the Empire State to no avail.

Duane Eddy singles turn up quite often in boxes
but I hadn't seen this one on Parlophone before

I had not come across this UK Caedmon single before

Lot's of grubby tunes on this double album of dubious pleasures

Some 7"s from the car boot this morning, yes they do them
on a Thursday morning round here. There were lots of cars
and it was pretty busy, but I only saw 2 other record collectors
(who I narrow my eyes at as we pass along the lines of cars)

Northants based folkies who released this EP on Cottage in '77

In the same box was this lovely flexi-disc
I had not stumbled across before.

A North Irish Christian spoken word oddity

Debut 1970 release by the same 'Music' maker.

Scarce 7" promo for a 60's cleaning product company,
I had no intention of playing the B side, honest.

Curious (read rubbish) single by an ex Pontins Holiday Park
house band, it came with a signed photo/label

I picked up this groovy R&B single for the title alone.

Best find of the morning was in a big box of 7"s
that had been gone through dozens of times before
but nobody noticed this weird wee gem.

    • Some good finds here. That John Miles is great. I just had a listen on YouTube.scruffics
  • Gardener0

I had to be up at 6 to find these 6 near mint
cheap as chips vinyl delights in the same box
at the car boot earlier today

  • Gardener1

Some bits and bobs from a busy weekend booting.
I saw a huge box of CDs in the back of someones car
and asked to have a dig through, wondering how much
they were she said "whatever, 25p each - 5 for a quid"
I pulled out some Eno, Beatles, Hendrix, Bonzos etc
and there were about 50 so I offered £10 and she said
"oh for Christsakes just have the lot for a tenner!"
so I came away with a lot of the buggers but I'm going to
have to do a cheap CD stall at a car boot somewhere as
    I now have instant stock!

    the odd singles

    early 70's German Pop

I now have Freds' old copy of this Easy Listening EP

How nice to find a train record I didn't already have!

    Goth Rock on Motherkare Records

In with several other mostly UK FX albums was this weird US one

I picked up another Mikron Theatre LP earlier this year,
this is one from a couple of years later, only available by narrowboat

Nicest find of the day was this 12" from 1986 with
3 different versions of the Dr Who theme in a fancy
    hologram sleeve

I popped over to Milton Keynes yesterday to paint the loo
in the CRMK studio and couldn't help but make a few stops
en route, including some finds in Northampton.

Wandering around town I spotted some fella fixing his car
on the roof of a cafe next door to a furniture store.

These 2 x EMI promo LP's were in the same box in a
Northampton charity shop, I can only assumed they had
a lovely day out at the EMI factory, I know I would have.

    the tracklist

    Side One
    1. Queen - We Are The Champions
    2. Kenny Rogers - Coward Of The County
    3. Cliff Richard - Wired For Sound
    4. Diana Ross - Why Do Fools Fall In Love
    5. Bob Seger - Hollywood Nights
    6. Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills

    Side Two
    1. Hot Chocolate - Everyone's A Winner
    2. The Stranglers - Golden Brown
    3. Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
    4. Simon Rattle - Jupiter (classical)
    5. Olivia Newton-John - Physical
    6. Sheena Easton - Nine to Five

Although this is an American pressing I'd never come across
this old Northampton based metalworks company LP before.

There is nothing left of Timken's now but the old factory gates remain.

a couple of 7"s turned up in MK

The godawful Agora building in Wolverton, MK
(some architects idea of how we would shop in the future)
is thankfully doomed to be demolished at some point soon.

I didn't expect to pick up these 2 x 25p goodies in not bad nick

I finished my dig with a coffee in the local cafe -
this was the site of my dads first 2nd hand shop
in the early 70's, yes that probably explains where I get it from!

  • Gardener0

I've had a good dig this morning but one record related thing
    I did find - for a pound!?! was this old 12" x 12" box dated 1929
with the stamps and address etc, it's in lovely condition for it's
age. I guess these were usually just thrown away as I can't find
any info on a similar box ont net. It's a keeper tho as I can put 78's in it!

  • Gardener0

Odds and ends from an early morning dig in a wet field in Northamptonshire

Electronic-Classical-Prog for men with beards by Hodgson & Simpson.

Electronic-Musique-Concrète for schools by Daphne Oram & Vera Gray

Music composed for 'The Womens League of Health & Beauty'
by Barbara Furniss, it is signed on the back and came with a live show programme

Super to find this great album by Jellyfish but the sleeve
was well tatty, luckily the 2 x vinyls are dandy

I was pleased to turn up some sweet sevens all on the
same stall, the same woman always turns up with dozens
of boxes of LPs (£2 a pop) and 7"s for 50p always has
unusual stuff. I also pulled clean and tidy Jeff Beck, Zeppelin, Clash albums

  • Gardener2

bits n bobs from the last week or so

I won this in a mixed lot at a local auction, there were
other nice bits in the box but this was the funkiest by far

    A w/l private press with flute/folk/choirs, I couldn't find
any other info on it like date or label so a bit of a mystery

This is the 3rd one I have in this Occultia series,
with a bit of luck/stars in allignment etc I may find the other 9

This French disc was in with the auction lot, a 10" disc
in a 12" sleeve and a fancy tri-fold sleeve, this is the first
diseased organs record I have ever come across, errrrr....

A car boot turned up a pile of flexi-discs in an envelope
which included the debut release by Rolf Harris from 1959

along with 4 copies of a promo gatefold sleeved clear square flexi by the Humph

Best find of the week was this 25p gem which was only in VG condition with a cracking B side

    • Awesome. That Stainless Sould one sounds great! I'd have been quite chuffed if I found thatscruffics
    • it is and I am!Gardener
  • Gardener0

picked up some old kids 78's today -
all in beautiful condition and 29p each!

    1938 b/w Dig-A-Dig-Dig, Heigh Ho

1938 b/w Whistle While You Work

    1936 b/w Lullaby Land part 2

    1941 b/w Buckingham Palace

1940's b/w The Cat Who Arranged Things part 2

    1950 b/w I'm Glad That I'm Bugs Bunny

    1940's b/w I'm Late

  • Gardener0

some bits I picked up at the record fair yesterday
and at the car boot early in the morning

An odd live LP, kinda Bonzo's lite from '79 with sleeve notes
by crap comedian Jim Davidson, I assume the last track on it
'Robert E. Lee' is not the same fella name checked on Roxy Music's
'Virginia Plain' but hey, it just might be!

Medi-Evil filth from Geoff Scarr "the immoral bard of Hull"
    according the rear, phwoar etc.

Some gay folk singing erm Gay Folk,
on Folkways (unfortunately not Gay Folkways)

the two albums below were in the same £1 box

I already have another copy of this Japanese Linear Tracking
picture disc which also has a proper card sleeve.

Set of 3 Open University pre-school discs from '77
disc 2 'Making Music' is the best of the bunch

Best buy at the car boot was a whole box of 60's 7"s
which I leisurely picked from as no-one there was interested
in the records, he said he wanted 25p each but I was happy
to push 30 notes in his hand, I left dozens of Cliff singles but
bagged the EP's and they are all in beautiful condition!

The record fair turned up this curious 78rpm,
I'll probably stick it up on ebay or summat....

recent vinyl finds and OK like I actually need more,
    but at least I'm choosy!

48 years too late and I could never have foreseen
picking this LP up until now. It has elements of the
Zodiac 'Cosmic Sounds' album but is not half as trippy.

These 2 soundtrack albums turned up in one of the boxes
from the lot with the pink box I picked up a few weeks ago.

I'm glad I took a pound punt on this at the car boot on Sunday.

This old record carrier was literally full of Cliff Richard singles,
she let me have it for 50p and thankfully she kept the records.

On another stall I found a couple of singles by local
hometown bands, alas that is not David Tibet's Coil.

2 x charity shop finds in Milton Keynes last week,
the JJP 7" has Moog Indigo on the flip

This single pressed all my buttons, groovy SFX,
BBC freebie, just a shame it wasn't a flexi too!

I paid £100 for this box of LP's (one of three) and they are
nearly all EX+ so I think I probably did OK. I'd met a guy at
a car boot who told me his mate had died and he'd ended
up with his LP's and didn't want them. I paid him what he
wanted so we were both happy.

    • Great posterscruffics
    • Nah man, you DO need more! Nice buys! According to discogs you should be able to make your money back if you just sell that Christine Perfect LP alone.scruffics

    cool story, watch out v

Couple of weeks ago I googled 'charity shop vynil blog'. Clicked a few of the first suggestions, found one that looked good and stuck in reading for a good little while. Ten minutes into it find myself thinking:

'this is pretty thorough, almost sounds like someone I know. hmmmm. sounds like...' - look at the URL in the address bar - 'fucking GARDNER!!'

Randomly stumbled onto your tumblr. Good stuff man keep it up.

    ---

Have no space on my phone to take any pics but yesterday I picked up:

Ron Carter - 'Anythng Goes' (jazz funk 1975)
    - great LP and great sleeve

Teddy Wilson All Star Sextet (DJML 076)
    - bop, jazz, not bad

Andy Sheppard - 'introductions in the dark' (1989)
    - contemporary jazz saxophonist from U.K. Has got a some really good bits on it.

    ...and...

Le Maquis presents Residence - The Jazz Touch (2001)
    - another contemporary jazz LP. It's a bit too contemporary for my tastes tho and needs to calm down a bit

£1.50 each. I was pretty happy after a shit day at work.

    @gardener

I'm thinking of having a big music clearout.
A good amount of vinyl including 90s indie, some Public Enemy, NWA, lots of Soul and Funk compilation albums like FUnk Spectrum and the likes - including compilations of songs from Brainfreeze as thats the kind of stuff I used to DJ.

In terms of CD's its a mix of indie, rock, some dance from the last few decades.

I have some 7 inches that are probably worth a good few quid each so will run them by local collectors I know first.

With the other stuff though I thought about a car boot sale.

What would be the going price for vinyl and CD's/
Also what do folk charge for DVD's?

Going to go along to a local car boot sale this weekend to see if there's anyoen selling the same kind of stuff and what their prices are.

I guess bundles are a really good way of getting shot of stuff in bulk.

    • keep them... box them up. it will be fun to go through in a few decades. I still miss all the vinyl and CDs I gave away in college.fooler
    • condition is so important really so the better they are I'd consider ebaying them after checking current values on discogs.Gardener
    • Car boot prices are under £3 for LPs if they are more folk tend to skip onto other stalls.
I clear out at £2 each or 3 x £5 and do OK

    • Cheers for the info man. Will keep some of the best but need a clearout bigtime!microkorg

7"s of pleasure picked up from a misty field in Northants at 7am (I was a bit late!)

This pressed all my buttons and is a pretty catchy tune
that Chas & Dave would have been proud of.

A woman who has been clearing out her husbands vinyl
for quite a while at the boots now turned up with lots of
boxes of LP's which most folks fell on, but I went for the singles.
I don't think I missed much with the albums, there were some
Reggae but they were very tatty so I was happy at £3 for these demos.

    odds 'n' ends

    1982 EP

    OK for a quid

Released to celebrate Spurs FA Cup final (going on to
win 1:0 against QPR after replay) in 1982, the gold flexi
    is a nice extra.

Released to celebrate Shrewbury winning the old
Division 3 and The Welsh Cup in 1979

    Great label + sleeve

This instrumental version of The Who tune went top 40
in America but this UK issue fell flat

  • Gardener0

It's nearly the end of the booting season but some
odd things are still cropping up in fields like this
lovely 10" private pressing still in it's original mailer
from 1961 which I had never seen or heard of before this morning.

There is a UK version of this compilation recorded by
Alan Lomax on Topic but this is the US issue on Caedmon,
it has some great tunes including the classic 'Cruising Round Yarmouth'

In the same £1 box as the SoS album above were these
poetry & song compilations released on Argo in 1968

The only 7" I picked up this morning was this pretty
pervy Glam groover from '73, it shoulda/coulda been a hit!
The B side 'Action Man' is an early Giorgio Moroder writing/production credit.

An amusing 50p addition to my football records collection, Denis Law pictured top left poses like a pro!

that all important tracklisting in full

I nearly left this as it looked a bit tatty but the vinyl was excellent
and it turns out to be a fine find.
