My brother in law says he's left it too late in life to get into the computer games industry. I said he hasn't and I need to prove him wrong.
Who has has info on how to start etc?
Do any of you work in the industry?

for programming or the art part? It is a tough industry to land work in. I don't think ever too late.

I have a friend who works at Valve, another at Ubisoft Montreal and one other at Red Storm.
The one from Valve got in through the mod scene, he was very active on it, worked on many mods. The one from Ubi he's a computer scientist and works on systems related to online games and stuff like that, it's his first job in the game industry. The one at Red Storm is an artist and worked previously on other game studios not sure how he started.

I know a couple of people in and who've left the industry. The hours and money aren't both terrible.

Being in Vancouver, and meeting lots of people who work/worked at EA, you hear the same story a lot: 14hr days, Monday to Saturday, with a half-day Sunday (7-8hrs).
Evidently that's "just the industry". Not sure why anyone would pursue that on purpose. Go get a law degree if you want to work every waking hour. At least then you'll get paid for it.

it is never too late in life to earn money working on something you enjoy

8-9 month game cycle.
You work insane for 8-9 months and you take 2-3 months off.
If your game does well, you get share of the profit (even at EA).
and if it becomes a franchise? less work over time until the title suck and you have to revamp it

I started making my first "game" too, actually it's more like a tutorial on how to get better psychic power,
any of you want to try the demo and give me some feedbacks?

Let's start a business! Who's in...? Video game key art... All we need is one client to get the ball rolling...
- cannonball19780
I am learning c# and XNA at the moment for this very reason.
^ why on earth would you need a client?
- cannonball19780
I would say this:
If you want to get into "the industry" you will be disappointed.
If you want to make an independent game, or even a great game, prepare to live cheaply, make lots of mistakes and only reap the rewards at the very end. Much harder if you have large financial responsibilities like kids and a mortgage. Insulate yourself financially before going down this path.

Also, http://gamesalad.com/ is a good tool for prototyping basic crap.
