The Anthropocene is functionally and stratigraphically distinct from the Holocene
http://www.sciencemag.org/conten…Abstract
Human activity is leaving a pervasive and persistent signature on Earth. Vigorous debate continues about whether this warrants recognition as a new geologic time unit known as the Anthropocene. We review anthropogenic markers of functional changes in the Earth system through the stratigraphic record. The appearance of manufactured materials in sediments, including aluminum, plastics, and concrete, coincides with global spikes in fallout radionuclides and particulates from fossil fuel combustion. Carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles have been substantially modified over the past century. Rates of sea-level rise and the extent of human perturbation of the climate system exceed Late Holocene changes. Biotic changes include species invasions worldwide and accelerating rates of extinction. These combined signals render the Anthropocene stratigraphically distinct from the Holocene and earlier epochs.- yes this is upsetting.sarahfailin
- Pussies.
Each and every one of us has had a more long-lasting impact on the Earth's future than any creature ever, before.

- lol, flat earth shit is so goddamn fascinatingmonospaced
- "research it"... where do i startdrgs
- lol, sounds legitgeorgesIII
- here are 200 "proofs" earth is flat http://www.atlantean…scarabin
- All those pictures and videos from space are just CG. Don't believe the hype.jtb26
- Pure gold. I might go read more of their expanded proofs for fun later.monospaced
- Unfortunately I know at least two people who might believe this.Mattjanz3n
- That is awesome. I would love to meet one some day.monospaced
- Actually the ocean bends like that because of the earth's curvaturemekk
- That anyone in the 21st century believes the Earth is flat is mind-boggling. I need to wash the stupid off me.Continuity
- @Continuity OMG! really, dude? do you really have zero sense of humor in you?chukkaphob
- Err ... that's me ... humourless cunt, right here ...
¬_¬Continuity - Oh, I see, now. I'd just like to note that I don't think you're stupid or that you believe the Earth is flat, scarabin. Not by a long shot.Continuity
- Sorry if it seemed like that.Continuity

Scientists in London have been granted permission to edit the genomes of human embryos for research, UK fertility regulators announced.
The 1 February approval by the UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) represents the world's first endorsement of such research by a national regulatory authority.

So with LIGO they spent $620 million total to build and upgrade the thing to make this observation of gravitational waves.
I was about to write that there's no practical application for this observation, but after a little more reading, I'm understanding that this is the beginning of a whole new field of astronomy-- gravitational astronomy.
This first observation of gravitational waves is really only the first successful application of the first-generation gravitational detector, LIGO. The Einstein Telescope is a Third Generation gravitational wave detector still in the design phase. Could actually be really useful for observing different kinds of objects in distant space.

I guess bob lazar is vindicated,
now let's wait another 20 years for the electric universe theory to become accepted
