if folks are looking for an actual web-app tool for building sites without having to code themselves, then I'd probably look to apps like
http://froont.com/ and
http://webflow.com/when i saw the landing page for that google tool, i thought perhaps they'd gotten into the game as well, but that thing isn't even remotely what I (or anyone i can think of) would want to use....

From @ohhhhhsnap's link:
The first warning sign is missing preview options for Firefox and Opera. The HTML source isn’t the worst I’ve seen — although it suffers from an overload on unnecessary divs, ids and classes — but it’s shocking to find that it only works on Webkit browsers. That’s right, 50% of your audience won’t be able to see your lovingly-crafted animations. Far more people could view Flash-based advertising.

Flash is more ubiquitous than this

it's for making Google Doodles and banner ads, anything bigger would be a stretch - but it looks better than the Flash-based HTML5 conversion tools and green sock - and it's free.

I think for small stuff, with little transition details/banners it'll be fine.
Design a whole site in this? that's a laugh. It would take you forever and it would look like shit.

^ I wouldn't say its better. The interface is poor and its v.laggy for some reason considering its all simple shit - not video or something.

Kind of embarrassing for Adobe, Google releases a program that is as good as what they have been able to come up with. And Google isn't even a design software company.

Calling it "Web Designer" is a bit stupid, it's clearly just a tool for creating banner adverts.
Why do you think DoubleClick specifically said they did not support Adobe Edge.
Bad day to be the Edge team, their product has basically been rendered worthless. It's only real role was to fill the banner shaped hole Flash left behind but no ad networks supported it.

Awesome. Everyone will be able to try and fail. Things like that are great at teaching the clients they need to hire the pros.

- Did that Rob Delaney guy really intend to come across as a shilling cunt?deldelesc

I met one of the guys that created this. He said his team is all flash ex flash guys. That would explain the familiar interface.
So far it looks awesome.
