am i missing the point of the new samsung gear? is there an audio jack input? do you need to have another android phone near you to actually make a call on the watch? is it wi-fi enabled by itself, or simply tethered to your phone? does it need it's own data plan? why have none of these questions been addressed? or have they and i'm just looking in the wrong places?
plus, a 1.8 megapixel camera? what is the fucking point to that POS? if you are going to add a camera, at least make it somewhat useful.

^ Yeah, the watch is an add-on accessory for a Galaxy Note 3 phone. It doesn't make calls on it's own, so it doesn't need it's own data plan. Bluetooth only, so maybe you can use it with bluetooth headphones? No audio jack. No wi-fi.

more crap no one needs.

Any watch would have to be something pretty amazing. Won't take much for Apple (or Google, which just snapped up some watch maker) to improve on this thing.

I havent worn a watch in 30 years and I dont think Ill want to any time soon. On a side note (Pun!), anyone notice the lag in the video when the user swipes? By the time the finger goes all the way to the left and stops then the 5 frame animation starts. Wow.
- yeah, it needs a lot of optimization. i'm sure it will get better before release, but as of now it looks maddening.lvl_13

Building a product based on that iWatch rumor?

you know, it doesn't matter how cool or flashy they make this nerdy trinket, it's still no frogger watch... miss mine, RIP : (

A stupid product no one needs and not too many people will buy. We're too busy to reach into our pockets to check our phones now?
But such a cool commercial:

Galaxy Gear "has cumulative sales under 50,000, with daily sales of only 800-900 units. These low sales values for the Galaxy Gear are far below the initial expectations of the industry."
Awe.

- All tech companies make mistakes - you should know that :)fadein11
- What mistake? This thread is about the Gear, and I was only posting some sales results.monospaced
- Was the mistake that Samsung made the Gear, or that they just made a shitty product, or just too early?monospaced
- 50,000 seems high.freedom
- Maybe if you're high.monospaced
- Apple sold millions in minutes. Is 50,000 still high?monospaced

why not finish the quote? you know the point of the article...
"[Samsung] did not initiate global sales. It also decided not to produce any more units after the initial 50,000"
- I see what you mean. But they still aren't selling well.monospaced
- That 50,000 limit isn't for the Gear, either. It's for the "Round."monospaced
- Those are separate quotes, talking about separate products.monospaced
- nice try thoughmonospaced

Their ad was misleading, showing ONLY the gear as if it was a stand-alone device. Fuck you on this one Samsung.

I really think Android, and the entire PC market, would be so much better off if they just spent one more month on refining design. Everything, including PCs and laptops, are just so close to Apple, but it's like they all just skip the final reviews and push crap out there.
Same w this Android watch. So close, but obviously a notch down from Apple. Dell's XPS laptops, same thing, almost there ,but like one notch down.
Mind boggling how no one, after a 15 year run of Apple killing everything, seems to figure this out.
I pray the Google/Tag watch will be something special, but I am not holding my breath.
- But they came out with this watch a year before Apple.monospaced
- Get the latest Sony or LG with the latest version of Lollipop and there is absolutely no comparison out there. Android far outclasses iOS, finallyset
- and they'd have a better watch if they kept refining it, but here we go again starting overformed
- Hardware is what I care about now, and Apple kills everyone else (a few exceptions, but not Samsung)formed
- Absolutely incorrect. Sony and LG are as equally nice as the iPhones, and half the price.set
- Plus they don't shatter the first time you drop them.set
- I agree the others are nice, and would be great, if they refined. LG is not as nice, imho, screen's great, plactic is crapformed
- I have the LG G3 and it's absolutely perfect. The plastic means I can remove the back so I have a spare battery in my wallet. Perfect.set
- This was released yesterday. Looks nice - http://www.mi.com/in…set
- I agree glass and metal feels more premium but not necessarily more robust or better in the handset
