...when you get that "HELLO!" from 40 ft. away -- what do you do?

Those "extra pieces of DNA" aren't extra, but they are differentiating and caused our species to develop more "gray matter," making us into a thinking, predicting, problem-solving, social group.
Some people affiliate themselves with political figures because they represent things they believe in. It might be herd mentality, but that's a shallow way of seeing it, in my opinion. So many factors influence one's "mentality," from the culture they were born into to the life they experience. So many things shape views and desires.
I sincerely believe people get into politics to do good things, to create "real change," not just gain "power."

You don't think orangutans have a power structure where the alpha male basically runs the pack?

Yep they sure do - as all animals do - including us. Just wondering what drives people to want to rule over other people.
To mono's point, I understand that "they" might feel like doing something positive - but in the long run, this system has been going on for a while now and it seems as though its not working.
For all the good we could do, the positive we could focus on - there's a 10 fold pile of bad that seems to be the real focus with g o v spending on defense, secret spying, people being held without reason, etc...
Guess I just have a hippy heart and sometimes it gets to me...
I'd rather not have to read about school kids being held hostage while the NRA says that's okay or another war in another country that needs to be funded with no explanation whatsoever as to why it's at all justified to take another persons life.
It's a tiresome political conundrum that seemingly can be fixed with a handshake and a hello, maybe a, hey, let's work together thrown in.
To me, the "power" I guess I'm inquiring about is the greed it emulates and the addiction greed creates, whether it's violent greed or monetary greed or simply psychological greed to take and use and force on other people.
