Power "given" to people is somewhat interesting.
As I was traveling to work this AM, a guy tried to hand me a flyer for someone he wanted me to vote for. For all I know, it could have been him - I didn't bother looking at the flyer because I never vote for anyone -
I started thinking about the guy, his "welcoming" smile, the way he tried to hand me this flyer about the motivation behind the election, etc...
Who are these guys who decide that they want to tell other people what to do and why as a society do we allow them to do it?
Is it just herd mentality?
We're a few genes away from being orangutans - why do some people feel that they can use those extra pieces of DNA to tell other people how they should think, do and act?
Anyhow, maybe just venting, but here we are with all this collective knowledge to change things for the better and the people supposedly in charge and who WANT to be in charge got us here - time for a real change?

Those "extra pieces of DNA" aren't extra, but they are differentiating and caused our species to develop more "gray matter," making us into a thinking, predicting, problem-solving, social group.
Some people affiliate themselves with political figures because they represent things they believe in. It might be herd mentality, but that's a shallow way of seeing it, in my opinion. So many factors influence one's "mentality," from the culture they were born into to the life they experience. So many things shape views and desires.
I sincerely believe people get into politics to do good things, to create "real change," not just gain "power."

Only sociopath egomaniacs get into politics. You got to be shitting me.

You don't think orangutans have a power structure where the alpha male basically runs the pack?

Yep they sure do - as all animals do - including us. Just wondering what drives people to want to rule over other people.
To mono's point, I understand that "they" might feel like doing something positive - but in the long run, this system has been going on for a while now and it seems as though its not working.
For all the good we could do, the positive we could focus on - there's a 10 fold pile of bad that seems to be the real focus with g o v spending on defense, secret spying, people being held without reason, etc...
Guess I just have a hippy heart and sometimes it gets to me...
I'd rather not have to read about school kids being held hostage while the NRA says that's okay or another war in another country that needs to be funded with no explanation whatsoever as to why it's at all justified to take another persons life.
It's a tiresome political conundrum that seemingly can be fixed with a handshake and a hello, maybe a, hey, let's work together thrown in.
To me, the "power" I guess I'm inquiring about is the greed it emulates and the addiction greed creates, whether it's violent greed or monetary greed or simply psychological greed to take and use and force on other people.
