It's been "coming back" for years. I don't know why, it only looks good on people that weight 120 and are 6 feet (aka 'models'), everyone else it makes look thick.
80's baggy sucked just as bad, but at least comfortable.
Hopefully things will settle back in the middle sometime soon (the "thin" cut is years into its lifespan).
God forbid any thin ties. That really is annoying...almost as much as rolled up jeans.
- It's been around for fashionable types, but there is a huge timeframe after fashionable just becomes normal.ETM

So many comments on things being too small or not fitting. Sorry mates, that IS the coming style. 50's inspired... tight suites, trim plain cuts, narrow lapels and even thinner ties. Oh... and higher waists.
I know, I'm scared too.
- the crotch of the slacks up there looks too baggy tho. 50s is coming back it's true.ohhhhhsnap

ok. http://www.artofmanliness.com/20… how a suit should fit. but i have to say there's something about an oversized suit on a nerd that just does it for me.

Summer weight 100% wool suit in dark grey. Not too shiny, subtle pattern. You can dress this up or down and get lots of use out of it. Wool doesn't wrinkle easily and feels comfy in a range of temps.
Ultimately the measure of a suit is how well it fits. Try on jackets until you find one that feels like it was made for you, and which makes you look like James Bond. Shoulder fit is what you're after first and foremost. Sleeves should be to the base of your thumb where it meets the wrist (these can be shortened, and may need to be tapered). Body length should fall to around the same height as your knuckles (this cannot be changed). Depending on the maker, you'll probably need to have the body taken in a bit. Pants should be hemmed with just a bit of break, and possibly tapered depending on the initial cut.
"Made to Measure" suits are a scam. Buy off the rack and get your suit made to measure with alterations.

I would suggest buying a cotton suit (little bit of wrinkle makes more casual) or tweed / felt.

I can recommend Suitsupply. Don't let the name fool you. They're great suits. I have a couple and they will make alterations to make sure it's a great fit. Really reasonable prices for great fabrics.

I've a couple of Paul Smith PS suits and they're ideal for casual and/or smarter gigs - even better if you can get one in the sale.
But then, you need to like that particular style and I imagine not so good if you are a committed salad-dodger...

- So the difference here is the stripes and tie?? Or is it the good pose vs. the bad pose?formed
- DO: Tell people it takes 4 people to style you cause you are an imbecile. DON'T: Stand like an awkward moron.Amicus

- a bad belt, shirt, and tie kills the casual looking suit...omg
- fuckn amateur. Don't: suit isn't pressed. Wrong belt. Tie falls below the belt. Shirt cuff should slightly show. Dick should be out.kona

If a suit is only something you will wear rarely, like once a year for weddings, it probably isn't worthwhile to buy. Shapes and styles change, your size may change, and before you're worn it 4 or times, it will fit like shit and look old.
Just go to a tuxedo place, and rent one. You'll have a new fresh one for every event, it will fit right, and you can get something that looks good without a lot of compromises.
