"As we face an all-out assault on science and the principles that inform it" - I'm so glad I'm not American sometimes.
- I really don't know, is this push toward creationism uniquely American?monospaced
- sharp as usualGeorgesIV
- Mono, I live in Italy where we have the vatican and we've yet to hear them even pushing creationism in the schools, so yeah, USA onlyGeorgesIV
- 1st comment was aimed at detritus :)GeorgesIV

"As we face an all-out assault on science and the principles that inform it — a dogma-driven, results-focused culture of denial and institutionally reinforced ignorance, as we strip science curricula from schools and research funding from budgets — we need Cosmos more than ever. Carl Sagan’s Spaceship of the Imagination isn’t just a convenient metaphor. It’s an ark, whose trajectory has the potential to change the course of our culture, and, possibly, our future."
- delusional much? this is so US centric, assault on science, wtf?GeorgesIV
- I haven't actually witnessed it myself, since i've been out of school for many years, but I know it's happeningmonospaced
- but there's nothing wrong with promoting science in the face of opposition, regardless of where it comes frommonospaced
- I wouldn't call her delusional, but yes it is a US centric perspective.monospaced
- they're talking about the religious, and yes they creep on science all the live-long daydoesnotexist

Dr Brian Cox is always fun to watch.Continuity - Yes, he has shows, and that's why he's ideal for Cosmos, among other reasons I listed alreadymonospaced
- It's his enthusiasm that makes him so good, very similar to Sagan's except more boyish.Continuity
- Yea but he pronounces 'saturn' like a compete bellendset

@letterhead
The only thing in the trailer that is REMOTELY science fiction looking is the space-ship, and if this is anything like the '80s version, even that is based on rock-hard science. The rest of it is just visual explaining how the universe works, so nothing to do with movies, but more to do with documentaries (which this is, basically).
The space ship would be a reference to our humanity in the future, so yes, a little "fiction" for our imaginations. As we learn more about the cosmos, we naturally wonder how we would get there, and how our technology might help us. Anyway, that's my take on it. Here's a screenshot from the show 30 years ago where Carl Sagan is narrating on a fictional space ship:

- hey, if anyone's going to imagine a realistic spaceship, it's going to be scientistsmonospaced
- all our best tech comes from sci fi. i can list a handful just from star trek alonescarabin

Having no idea what this is, the youtube vid looks to be a random edit of scifi movies and biology documentaries. Doesn't appear to tell any kind of story but then again what do I know.
- it's the story of the cosmosmonospaced
- but whats up with the spaceships, cartoons and multiple cinematic styles? looks like more than 1 storyletterhead
- see the Wired article I posted above, it answers a lot of thatmonospaced

The trailer is cringeworthy in my opinion :(

"We have what I think is the greatest story ever told: the story of the universe, and our place within it, and how we came to discover our place within it."
"...it’s the science of the day that gives us knowledge about how to think about our place in the universe."
— Neil deGrasse Tyson

yeah, tyson is the only element that's giving me hope for this series. i'm even okay with it being an overblown scifi wankfest, as long as he's on board.
