I watched this last night with the lady. Considering the implied violence in some scenes, she was still cringing away from the screen whenever she heard the sword come out. (Probably for the better considering the fate of the bearded man in the lounge chair.) It is quite good. I enjoyed the minimal dialogue and having to watch the story unfold along with the main characters. The foreshadowing was subtle enough to be mysterious while still engaging. The respect shown was great. I loved the ending
So glad I didn't watch the trailer. (I hate trailers anymore)
Easily ★★★★☆

Yeah the visuals were definitely the best part. About the ending...I read part of the script a while ago, and originally the last scene in the woods was supposed to be much longer and more dramatic. Whereas in the actual film it lasted just a couple minutes and seemed almost like a dream sequence. The director actually cut a lot of elements out of the script for some reason, although basic plot was the same.
- wonder if there's going to be an uncut version released?sublocked

ukit I actually enjoyed it but I thought the...mechanics? used in the film were a bit contrived.
Seemed like the same recipe from Drive but just not as good? I loved the visuals though. Loved the ending as well. I'll probably watch it again.

I liked it. It was more like a David Lynch movie, very abstract. But not as slow and boring as people have been saying, unless your idea of a good movie is Batman vs Superman or something like that.
Only complaint is that the ending felt kind of rushed and hastily thrown together.

Every single comment babydick adds to this post makes me want to hate this film more and more.

Watched it opening night here.
Ultra violence, slim plot, OK score.
MEH.

I don't know Refn or the Pusher trilogy, but I saw the trailer for this during a family sitcom so I'm sure it's ball-gripping.

The UK trailer is pimp, no doubt, and the movie is pretty fucking awesome. Just don't expect an action packed flick with fights and shootings every two minutes. Shit is hypnotizing and the tension will grip your balls.

The UK trailer was great. But when a trailer is that good, you just know the movie is going to suck.

@ qoob...Pretty people and pregnant pauses. Same reason I couldn't get into Drive.

52% on Rottentomatoes

I heard that in this movie Ryan Gosling spends a lot of time not saying much and staring off vacantly into space.

Drive was alright, a movie done really well, but I did not went crazy about it. I'm a big fan of the Pusher trilogy, where the 1st/3rd one was the best (really hard to choose), and the 2nd was really good. For real, if you haven't seen them, you better step your movie game up. One of the best trilogies ever.

Looks like utter shit / Drive 2.0

This director(Nicolas Winding Refn) makes movies with great trailers and some style but they suck in actuality. Like Drive. Create all that hype and a big let down.
By the way I didn't watch the movie just following the rant here.
