I think it looks cool but it's not very usable.
A tightly packed grid and such a subtle indicator relation of text to image makes it really confusing.
Also, the header bar is huge. On a big screen it'd be no biggie but on my laptop it's a bit too much.

Even on a big monitor that header is huge.
The pop-up/down/across rollovers are slightly annoying, especially as the sites responsive. It's ok apart from that. Plus, it's flat yo!

Header should minimize as the page scrolls down maybe.

I love how the header minimizes when you scroll down. Very nice.

- I knew all you guys did was glance at the home page and then comment here. :Dmonospaced
- The footer that changes to a header is actually kind of cool. Good call mono.instrmntl
- I scrolled, I just think the initial header is huge.orrinward2

I have to disagree, orrin, I think the grid is nicely loosely packed and the type is clean and legible. A nice balance between people who respond to photos/images, and those who skim for words. I also think the article pages had a nice update. Great margins.

It's strong.

Pinterest loving wannabe jackasses. That is the ugliest UX I have seen in awhile. Literally two sites. 1 for their home page presence, 2 for their content. It is so disconnected look at the mast head with their stupid advertising sizes... You have 450px on the home page to the content, and 370 on the content interior pages. Its really messed up navigation. Good luck Esquire I bet this lasts 3 months in this current form.
- < over 50set
- Pinterest atleast keeps their content organized this is just pure chaos, and the last I checked Esquire was known for the quality journalism and creative writing... not their imagery.
Iggyboo - journalism and creative writing not photography, and imagery. Now if they just kept one of the mast heads and drew it up when you scrolled down I wouldn't complain than it would be fine.Iggyboo
- 30 Good try there Set :PIggyboo
- almost like a real magazine: one style for the cover, a couple more inside, huge masthead... did you even scroll?monospaced
- even scroll?monospaced
- I scrolled, you have 3 navigations with the scroll. that's 2 too many in my 2 cent opinion.Iggyboo
- Trust me I like the scrolled down state better than the rest of that junk.Iggyboo
- There's only one navigation bar. Then article titles. That's really just 1.monospaced
- No your drinking scotch too early, you... I'll count the navs. 1. 450px, 2. 94px ( scroll down best ) 3. 125px ( h1+h2 )
Iggyboo - Plus each category link takes you to a new page. I don't mind the "Grid" design, its their nav that's made this a mess.Iggyboo
- 1. 450: not navigation (hint: masthead). 2. Navigation (footer becomes header). 3. Non-existent.monospaced
- Know what? It doesn't matter. You can hate all you want, but I think it's very, very, very far from a failure as you claimmonospaced
- fair enough we can agree to to agree about that. Opinions and assholes we both got em. :) have a good day Mono.Iggyboo
- haha, thanks, you toomonospaced
