so, does this work without a license?

Works with the serial provided apparently, but Adobe are being very clear they are not giving it away for free and that you should only download it if you already own a licence.

I think I read they are shutting down the authentication servers of CS2.

CS2 is pretty good, but if you really want that vintage look you gotta get the original CS.

So you can't technically use this software unless you have a valid license, but here are the keys to get in, and don't forget about our affordable "creative cloud" service when you want to do something legit - wink wink.
Seems like a good way to build up their future user-base.

So is it free?

seems such a bizarre move to release it free then to publicly make statements that you're stealing if you don't legally own it.
Either they reluctantly had to make it available for avoid some sort of lawsuit. Maybe they don't have all licences linked to accounts so they can't tell who has bought it and who hasn't so can't just offer the activation-free version to legal customers.
or one part of the company thought it was a good idea to release it for free but then another half doesn't want it to look like they give out freebies.
Gotta have been some internal issue or surely they'd have just said it's free and unsupported because it's old btw here's a list of what you're missing out on by not buying CS6

What would one miss out on between CS2 and CS6 ?....
