Wife's work is going through some changes and we might need to live in Hamburg for a certain period.

First, we need to get her a work permit, she's getting the sponsorship letter from her company and she's going to apply for a work permit there as a US citizen. Are there any Americans whose gone through this process in Germany?

Second, I did some quick search on rents in Hamburg and there are really nice looking furnished studio or 1 bedroom flats around 500-600 euros in the city. Which is surprisingly good. Is that normal?
    Vielen Dank.

    rent is about right..
cant speak to the rest of it.. except to say that Hamburg has one of the most progressive pot possession laws in the country..
you can be caught with up to 30grams before the police do anything except take it off you and issue a warning.

I went through the work permit process. Hamburg is the best city for skilled foreigners to work. If she has found a job and they sponsor her, it could take up to a month to process all the paper work.

I would suggest going to the Hamburg Welcome Center, set up a meeting and so all of your visa work there: http://english.hamburg.de/welcom…

Everyone there is really friendly, and if you set up an appointment make sure you have all of your paper work. Germans love lots of paper work.

Finding housing will be easier once you have proof you have a job, some house companies want a lot of paper work as well, so have copies of everything.

    Good luck!
