I think I'd been heading this way from a very early age, without really knowing what I was heading toward. The timing was right and I followed my interests in art and technology with an original thought to go into classical animation... which was a bullet dodged!
Graduated, worked briefly as an illustrator, and got a job doing websites in 98 right as the internet was becoming a more mature medium (4.0 browsers, flash) and it ticked all the boxes for me, so I've been doing it ever since.

beats being a male prostitutes.
to be honest... I suck at anything else that's useful.
And parents told me not to go into anything relate to art so I did the exact opposite.

Always had a knack for illustrating / drawing / sketching when I was younger... It stuck with me through high school and then I was introduced to a Communication Design class at community college. The rest is history.

When I just 15, my parents buy me a copy of FutureSplash Animator for my birthday. The rest is history, and I never looked back.

i always had a thing for expressive side of skateboarding, music, and high fashion though i enrolled in school for vet medicine as i enjoy animals as well. my roommate was an illustration major in college by chance. his homework looked more interesting than mine did, so after a messy summer internship at an animal clinic, i came back and switched to fine art (painting). made a portfolio of spec design work as a back up and got hired to do motion graphics without knowing anything about it.

After a few tests in high school, they told me I should either go with physics or something like Civil Engineering. Looking back now... I may have made a mistake. I'm still obsessed with astrophysics.
I could have been making a killing all these years. Instead I chose to be a broke designer. Had I grown up in a country like the US where you can actually make a decent living even obscure careers, I would have definitely pursued a career in astrophysics, or something related to science.- SCIENCE!!pango
- I hear you wit the astrophysics thing, but I doubt you'd've made a killing doing it..detritus
- Guarantee you I would have at least been making a hundred bucks more monthly than now.VectorMasked

I started designing posters, logos, flyers, etc, when I was 15 y/o. Photoshop 3, that came with a scanner my dad bought for xmas. I used to draw a lot, and my friends often told me I was very creative...
It just "happened".

as a kid i would always draw with a ruler, and copy images as perfectly as i could. my mother always thought i was gonna be an architect. she still does... i first started with computer graphics in the late '80s. our computer club teacher set up Turtle Draw and even had the Turtle Robot that would draft your designs on a piece of A0 paper. pretty cool.
i think after that what appealed to me was being able to freelance, work from home and earn decent money without all the formalities and responsibilities of a permanent job. i freelanced for 7 years, then joined a development company as lead interaction designer, which ended up killing my soul and destroying all of my ambition to further a career in the industry.

Been drawing, painting and doing art shows etc most of my life. Needed to find a way to make it a stable income, saw a snickers bar and realized someone got paid to that ish; thought done and easy, I can do that. Went to school got a job and realized in the end...
They robbed the snickers designer blind.
