You don't need to keep those records, as far as I know. The bank already keeps records of your statements, and receipts are only required for what, 3 years? Also, if you want to toss them, do you really need them anymore?

i bought an app called "scan" for iphone that's supposed to do this. haven't used it yet though

Evernote? It has ocr, and would mean you could easily search them too.

I've seen an info-commercial for this scanner before. Seems pretty cool but then again I thought the Magic Bullet was pretty cool after watching their info commercial.

I actually had the same issue and I used this for a temporary solution. It worked good with old invoices even though its meant for book/paper filing.

Acrobat Professional has OCR - works well unless hand writing

maybe irrelevant but i remember epson scanners usually come with text recognition software that converts your scan into text file and pdf
