I've got a couple cabinets full of old receipts, bank statements, government docs etc. that I want to toss. Before I do, I'd like to snap pics of each with a camera (too lazy to scan / would take way too long) and store digitally. Ideally looking for software with some type of OCR or auto-category.
what are your digital filing solutions? OSX or online...

You don't need to keep those records, as far as I know. The bank already keeps records of your statements, and receipts are only required for what, 3 years? Also, if you want to toss them, do you really need them anymore?
- good point... there are some things I would like to keep copies of - mainly receipts for equipment and government docsJulesvm

Evernote? It has ocr, and would mean you could easily search them too.

I've seen an info-commercial for this scanner before. Seems pretty cool but then again I thought the Magic Bullet was pretty cool after watching their info commercial.

I actually had the same issue and I used this for a temporary solution. It worked good with old invoices even though its meant for book/paper filing.

keep in mind the security aspect of all this

Acrobat Professional has OCR - works well unless hand writing

maybe irrelevant but i remember epson scanners usually come with text recognition software that converts your scan into text file and pdf
