Hello all,
Indesign [I\m on CS6 but I don't think this is version specific].
I'm working on a book that is half one thing and half the other. You read it from both sides, so it has two fronts. One half is upside down. Is there a way of turning the whole doc by 180 degrees rather than each spread by 180 degrees? I need to work on the other half, having completed the first.

good question

A workaround is to rotate half the spreads and reorder them, first last etc. Would sooner just rotate the whole doc though!

i've never tried this but perhaps if you rotate the master-page? (assuming you used master pages)
- craigatkinson0
hm that would just rotate each spread in the same place
- ah. you want to rotate AND reorder the pages. I get it now. sorry, nothing comes to mindGnash
- rotate the whole bookcraigatkinson

Maybe I just design each page then place it

Would it not be better to do everything right side up, then when printing have two pdfs, one for each side and get your printer to rotate and set up the impositioning?
Least, thats how I used to do double language annual reports.
- yes ideally. The printer is not as open as that!craigatkinson
- The printer wont do this for you? Then either rotate the second pdf and merge it ...ian
- or talk to other printers and find someone who's willing to work with you on it. I'd have assumed its a pretty standard request.ian

I think you might have to design it twice, one for each half, and then combine later in a PDF. Sounds like a pain. Good luck, let us know how you solve this.

yah its a cheap job with a 'no options' printer except for good paper. Shit but it works ok for this job. I'm laying out each page and rotating it in place 180. Having to think backwards for the second half. Only 32pp though, thankfully!
- well, at only 16 flipped pages, seems super simplemonospaced

Thread hijack:
Can I set up my pages so that I have facing pages (spreads) setup, but with the fold at the top edge (horizontal) instead of the left (vertical)? If so, let me know. Thanks.

Rotate your monitor.

I dont think so, would have to be rotated as above but per single page?

or maybe all this can be done in acrobat?

Craig, do as mono suggested... work up all the document right side up then just export the whole document as a print ready pdf with only crop marks and bleed, centred on the page. Then in acrobar rotate the last 16 pages 180 degrees and send to print.
I'd ask for a proof, just to be sure.

Lay them out as two separate files, then create a third file where you simply link the pages from the first, rotating them as needed. That's what we do for these kinds of books.
- < this is slickmonospaced
- makes edits easiermonospaced
- So...InDesign within an InDesign? You can't have bleed on thispig

i would just tell this to your printer
