have pretty much just released a new everything. To my mind are still great but are going a bit nuts in terms of amount of products, frequency of updates and quality control problems.

New imac looks great but why no optical drive? New ipad looks great but the 'new ipad' is now defunct - nowhere to be seen. Ipad mini is just a small ipad - not sure I see the point without the ability to make calls.
If they made an ipad mini with built in phone I'd have one in a flash though!

The *only* thing I use the optical drive for at home is to rip CDs. At the studio, we have some older archives on DVD, but have an external superdrive to take care of the few times we actually need to access them.

You know what? I was always against no CD/DVD burner but I realized that I always avoid using them because CD/DVDs on laptops are so unreliable, I can never burn shit or I always have the incorrect kind of DVD, I rather get a big drive once every 2 years and store my stuff there.
Also, I remember being genuinely upset when the first imacs came without floppy drives hahaha

I do like Apple products. Generally very well made - far more so than the competition, and generally work very smoothly - again, far more than the comp. However, I think the good service / high end product is being diluted because they have become so popular.
I use the optical drive. I use DVD for long term image storage, I thought external drives were no good for long term?

I like the new imac. The higher spec one has self- upgadeable RAM too
