why don't you just press shift, alt, cmd, triple depress p and a then rerun the process using S as your shortcut?

The pencil and brush tools have the options of Keep Selected and Edit Selected Paths, why doesn't the pen tool?

Shift + CMD + A?
- all that? ouchmonospaced
- You could create a custom keyboard shortcut, but that would be a lot of upfront clicking as an investment.CyBrainX
- this is old as time. now muscle memory. same in indesign.jaylarson
- same in most Adobe programs. I'm actually surprised if it doen't works.CyBrainX

@Gucci You're a life saver... Thank you. I've been searching all over for that shortcut.

Just push command by itself to switch to the arrow. Click off. Let go of command and back to pen. Much easier.

shift + cmd + a, yes gucci is right. it's a great one to program into your wacom hot keys (no one uses them I've learned)
also esc to get out of a text line

I was a hardcore Freehand user and was hard wired to click the tab button to deselect... or maybe I created that custom hot key... don't remember it was a lot of years in there. Still learning the complicated tricks of the over bloated Illushater...

adobe really needs to make key commands common across all of the software they provide. to get out of text fields in inDesign compared to photoshop? i still have no idea...and it drives me crazy to see that little red [+] box when i use the photoshop enter key in ID! ARRRGGGHHH

You can always customise the commands yourself remember, made me a lot more efficient in a bunch of Adobe apps
