Just got back into training (more cardio than muscular at the moment) but i wanted to know if you guys would suggest taking supplements for this type of workout or not.
To be honest I've started taking this energy powder before cardio and noticed my productivity being so much better but....
1. Is this bad for me?
2. Will i become dependent on it?
3. Will my productivity reduce if i took it for a few months and then stopped? Thanks

I've always considered supplements, recovery drinks, etc. to be merely something to spend your money on because you're excited about working out. A healthy diet and lots of water are all you really need, in my opinion.
You're training to be healthy. Why then put a bunch of manufactured stuff in your body?
- Actually i'm training for a few events but want to do it right and not find months later i still need the supplementsliveforever
- if that makes senseliveforever

It all depends on what's in it. Post a link to the stuff you're taking and someone can likely tell you if it's bad for you. The psychological side effects are good for the short term because they're making you feel like you have more energy and motivate you to get to the gym, but who knows if that's just a placebo effect happening?

Hey mate
"this energy powder" is rather vague. If by that you mean cocaine, quite likely your performance is going to be better but is not good on the long run.
Also, what kind of work out? For how long? how frequently? Are you dieting? Do you take recreational 'energy powder' too?
The only thing that can be answered so far is that you will experience withdraw symptoms whatever it is that you are taking.
- hey mate didnt know you were into training - i'll bug u on IM. coming to LDN soon if your around?liveforever

A lot of supplements are pure BS. Diet is the most important supplement to exercise, not some snake-oil shit you can buy at GNC.
If you absolutely must supplement try and stick to stuff that actually does something like whey protein (building mass - not muscle!) and creatine (but only use creatine if you know when and how to use it).
- maikel0
creatine can be dangerous, you will increase your muscle mass and will have a little more strength, but it will stop when you stop taking it... and you cannot be on creatine for ever.
also you are twice as likely to get an injury as it will develop your muscle mass but your joints and soft tissues will remain the same. I learnt that the hard way and had to stop training for half a year.
lastly, if you are not training when you stop taking it be prepare to buy a bra...
whey protein in that respect is better but you will fart as you never ever thought you could.

ask an expert?
doctor, dietitian, trainer at your gym, supplements store, other athletes...

As with anything know what your putting in your body. If your cool with whatever you are ingesting, use in moderation.
I've tried energy supplements and they do work, but I definately wouldn't take that shit every day

1. No
2. No
3. No (but it does depend what you take)Nothing wrong with a good quality protein shake, but not really much using those if you are ONLY doing cardio at the moment.
The world of supplements is a complicated game, there a hundreds of things and most are either useless or pointless unless you are some kind of super athlete/professional body builder.
Stick to a clean diet and train hard and you'll see results.
- Raniator0
Seeing as you are UK, have a look at http://www.myprotein.com/uk/
They are cheap (compared to competitors like Maximuscle). Also, look at the amount of stuff they do... shakes for this, capsules for that... so much stuff available it's a bit of a minefield. Like I say, go for a good quality protein shake when you start hitting the weights and that should do you just fine.
- liveforever0
Thanks Raniator.
I'm actually not taking too much protein as i'm concentrating more on cardio but i do take it when i've done weights. (mainly cos some guy fed me the bullshit about how it gave my muscles quicker recovery)anyway i've been using this (sample pack some gave me which is pretty good)
Cellucor C4 Extreme
And then prior to that i have this which is like rocket fuel
No ExplodeI'm probably coming off like some sort of fanatical meat-head now

Finish up session. Pint of full fat milk. Done.
- why milk ?liveforever
- Not sure. Went to a q&a with graeme obree... Good enough for him!JamesBoynton
- 18g of protein in a pintdrgs
- Yes, and what he said.JamesBoynton
- fyoucher10
NO!!!!! Don't take it. Stay natural.
The shit works, technically. Pre-workout drink definitely works (I was using No-Explode). Creatine also works but I felt like it was just giving me blood-filled mass without definition. Post-workout, meh.
The problem I had was I think it gave me a chemical imbalance or something like that (which ended up being more dangerous than it sounds). I went to the doctors, had all of these big tests done, etc. Dr said from the beginning, just stay off of that stuff for a while but I didn't because it helped a lot when working out. So I learned the hard way.
I was having heart palpitations, anxiousness (the worst of everything), sweating, nervousness. I just wasn't right. I actually felt like I was chemically controlled. At one point I felt like I was having a heart attack and that the world was coming down on me. Not good. VERY scary. There's just too many chemicals, too much caffeine in that shit. It's like putting supercharged gasoline into your minivan. Your body just isn't meant to handle things like that.
I stopped taking all of that shit. 6 months later, I'm back to normal. That was the 2nd time that happened, FYI. The first time I didn't understand and it wasn't as harsh.
Taking that kind of stuff will get you to where you want faster but it comes with risks.
- TheBlueOne0
Healthy diet, no sugar, whole grains, lean protein, green tea, water and black coffee.
Fuck paying some chemical company for your health
- Agree 100% for this. Still to have a personal trainer that says to take this shit...JamesBoynton
- The ones I do know that recommend it also sell it... Go figure.JamesBoynton
- lol thanks mate. i do all that anyway which is why i needed something more for energyliveforever
- hamburgers and doughnuts are giving me enough ;)liveforever
- cannonball19780
Take it if you need a kick in the ass but don't make it a regular training thing. I took that C4 stuff and found myself having flash bouts of irrational anger.
- Don't get the anger thing but i def have more energy i know what to do with.liveforever
- Jacque0
I've used N.O. Xplode and Jack3d before and they do give you more energy, also I found myself able to focus way better, but that's just likely the caffeine.
They also tend to give tingling skin (from the beta alanine) which can be rather unpleasant, also, mad poops.
- lol. You find your performance is still as good without. I'm thinking of only using this to push me past some hurdlesliveforever
- omg0
meth will get you going in the morning
