ok i have no idea where to start
http://www.dkngstudios.com/2012/…
how do they do it... just point me in some direction
bringing texture into illustrator kills my machine... how are they doing this? big machines or a technique i need to learn
- 20020
off set?
- GeorgesII0
probably big machine.
or you can create a pattern brush and only explode shape once you're happy with the result,or do the work in illustrator and bring in phooootoshop for the finish
- nah, won't workmonospaced
- really?
isn't it what they did in the video
GeorgesII - did'nt see the video, but it's clear the moire patterns are standard screen halftonesmonospaced
- the guy asked for a solution or tecnique, you didn't help much in helping obtain this effectGeorgesII
- I thought he was talking about the halftone patterns. In which case, I helped.monospaced
- by the vid, it seems that they didn't offset it at the end but actually did the halftone inside then printed offset, bohGeorgesII
- I didn't watch the video. But if that's how they did it, they're idiots.monospaced
- monospaced0
yeah, that's just regular, low-screen, offset printing
- monospaced0
correction, they actually state they're 4-color SCREEN prints
- CanHasQBN0
It's probably oil paint, and thAt effect is made with a really very tiny bruSh.
- BonSeff0
bullshit that is a screen print.
- looks exactly like one, just like the ones I've donemonospaced
- GeorgesII0
maybe you can try this,
can vouch for it though, never used it
- detritus0
Apparently so, BonSeff—
"The four color screen prints have an edition of 730 and will be available for purchase tomorrow, Friday July 27 at a random time. "
- spendogg0
It looks like they created the 4c Rosette Effect in Illy. or did the 4c separation with a low line screen create the effect. I want to know.
- monospaced0
Creating the halftones in Illy is just a waste of time, in my opinion. The easy (likely) method would be to output separations (CMYK) and turn those into individual halftones (laser printer) for the individual screens. The result is correct and requires almost infinitely less "data."
- BonSeff0
outputting cmyk seps would be retarded when all the colors are spot
- spot CMYK?monospaced
- makes no sensemonospaced
- the artwork is all spot colors. not cmyk mix.BonSeff
- where does it say it's all spots?monospaced
- because the print looks precisely like a 4C halftone printmonospaced
- just because it is 4c doesnt mean it translates to cmyk.. get it?BonSeff
- Guess we have to agree to disagree, but a 4C print is CMYK 99.999999999999% of the timemonospaced
- not in the screen printing world. tell me, where on these prints is black? or magenta?BonSeff
- good point, good discussion, but swapping out navy blue spot for K seems more likely than vector halftonesmonospaced
- Gnash0
mono is right here. and there is absolutely nothing odd about screen printing CMYK. why is this such a mystery?
- BonSeff0
jesus christ, read the last comment
http://www.dkngstudios.com/2012/…- yes. and so? regardless of which colors are used, it's printed as a haltone. it's not an "effect". just regular old 4c printing.Gnash
- ...printing.Gnash
- so they made separations, just like I thought, and not in illustratormonospaced
- just like regular CMYK 4c halftonesmonospaced
- of course they made seps, YOU NEED THEM TO BURN THE SCREENS FFSBonSeff
- and its not printed as a halftone. its printed as a screen print. haftone is just the artworkBonSeff
- wrong. of course you can screen print halftonesGnash
- spendogg0
this is straight from Dan.
Spencer,
This is a four color spot color. All of our work is made with spot colors rather than CMYK.
The rosette effect is the outcome of halftone angles being 30° a part from each other for each layer. All our halftones are created in photoshop.
For this particular design, everything was created and compiled in illustrator as smooth art, then the last step during separations everything is halftoned in PS.
- monospaced0
hey BonSeff, a "screen" print is a halftone, just sayin'
- BonSeff0
dude, i did this as a 6 color. its has halftones in the artwork. http://halftonefactory.com/scree…
once the artwork was finalized, each color was in its own layer in PS, subsequently printed out black on mylar, then burned to the screen.
being a halftone has NOTHING to do with it. it is just black and white line art. the color comes into play once you actually print the damn thing with a squeegy
- BonSeff0
you guys are fucking hilarious
- cbass990
In PS, they use a bevel/emboss to get the shading and then halftone it. Open it back up in Illustrator as a tiff...you can see them do in their videos...
- Gnash0
being a haltone has everything to do with it, actually.
They're not just printing a pattern. The four haltone plates come together to create the continuous colors. What you did in the piece you showed was simply a pattern that just looks like a halftone.
- BonSeff0
each color is still output as line art and has to be registered and printed as spot colors
- yes, and in this case in the form of a standard 4C halftone rosette patternmonospaced
- from separations, in the last stagemonospaced
