what do you like to do (that you could pursue as a possible career)?
i freelanced for 7 years before walking away from my last job when i realised i do not want a career or start my own company in this industry. took some time off then after talking to some people i got an opportunity to do a cabinet-making apprenticeship... 2 years, 6 days a week, 7-5 pm and earning just above minimum wage, but it was 2 of the best years of my life. in my spare time i shaped and fixed surfboards for friends in a little workshop i set up in my garage. at the moment i'm back to working in an office, but the pay is good and it's reasonably relaxed (flexible time, nice environment). but i still don't see myself doing this longterm... i will get back to cabinet-making (furniture mostly) when the time is right.

when i allways think on a career shift, i think on getting a bistro or restaurant, for to selling nice and cheap food, made with vegetables and meat i grown... my town needs a place like this, i can be the "kitchen workforce" and my wife... my wife is a master in social relationships.
but working from mo to su, and having to hire a mortgage when I have no debts, can´t correctly attend my daugthers education, and other "inconvenients" brings me back to earth.
Then, i close my eyes and dream with the day i can retire, get old and do NOTHING (ok, except a ton of compulsive drawings ;) )
