so craigatkinson what prompted your decision? Health? Ethics? A girl? Budget? Are you spending more/less/same as well as feeling better?

I pretty much stopped eating fish (maybe twice a year at most) for the same reason miko outlined above. Cows and chickens won't be going extinct any time soon.

A good friend of mine had colon cancer when we were in our 20s, he was a salad dodger big time and it really hit home how important moderation and whole foods are for us.

I just roasted a whole free-range, vegetarian fed chicken in my cast iron-skillet with potates, carrots, and some garlic yesterday. I rubbed the bird all over with salt + pepper, tossed it in the over at 450 for almost an hour, brushing twice with olive oil and oh my fucking god was it good. I'll gladly keep eatin' that flesh.
Don't get me started on red meat. I've been dry-aging my own steaks for about 2 years now. Amazing.

As I said, the decision wasn't really a decision initially, I just hadn't eaten meat for a few days. For years now I've said if I thought about it too much I'd stop eating meat [not including sea things]. So I became aware that I didn't need meat having never been a huge meat eater anyway, and when I did it was burger, or pizza etc so not the best cut! So now I just don't eat it and it's fun finding new things to eat. So MrT yes ethics, lightly, I suppose.
- That's actually exactly what happened to me in 1990.mikotondria3
- Good on you, I should to, but enjoy the best meat I can get for 2 or 3 meals a week.MrT

I've been a vegetarian all my life, but started eating fish about five years ago.
I like fish - but feel like a bit of hypocrite, as fish really is meat. And I can't really justify why eating sea-creatures is acceptable and land creatures isn't.
The concept of killing an animal and eating it, isn't my major concern; morally I think factory farming is very bad.
So, I'm now at a point where I feel like I need to either stop eating fish or start eating meat.

- Just keep on eating fish. What you eat doesn't have to make sense. Eat what comes naturally. Fish is good food.mikotondria3
- People eat cows but not dogs, or other people. Pigs, but not cats. It's all lines in the sand, it's up to you, no justifications.mikotondria3

I don't feel the same attachment to sea creatures I don't think. certainly not sea food, fish perhaps, but I'll keep eating them.
