@whereRI you might as well just get one, asking us to justify your purchase wont work, and even if we all said no you'd still buy it, just a day later.
I doubt I'll buy another MBP to be fair. Prob a windows or google one if they make a good one

Got a mbp retina a few days ago - the thing is amazing. My older laptop now looks all blurry and seems so slowww. Hi-density displays are no doubt going to be standard in a few years time.
Now just waiting for adobe to update cs6 for retina, should be any day now according to the internets.

Rule of thumb is NEVER buy the first generation of an Apple product.
- this what concerns mewhereRI
- this is like the umpteenth generation laptop they've made, monospaced
- Never buy the 1st gen of anything. And this one has a bunch of new stuff, so it isn't just an iteration.i_monk
- it's really not much different, dudemonospaced

Editing videos/photo on a retina display is a thing of dreams I tell you, dreams.

I have one and this my set-up, forked out a fair bit of dough about 2 months ago. Overally the build quality is amazing, as is expected. It is a far superior machine to my previous HP Envy 17, which was peice of shit in comparison. I was working pretty much in a windows android world for a few years but decided to try apple recently, and so far am pretty impressed particularly with the level of integration across the apple product family (if you embrace it) So Mountain Lion is good too, but they really need to cut the skeumorphism shit, and some retina machines have had issues with how the integrated graphics switch when the machine comes out of sleep mode (black screen, requires hard reboot). Mine was doing it at the start but seems to be fine now.
On a side note I'm probably going to install windows 8 onto it just to see what it's like and to play some games on my steam account.
Thunderbolt display:
Powers laptop, secondary workspace, previous laptop 512gb SSD is fixed with double sided tape and plugged into the back as secondary harddrive. iPhone dock also plugged in.Airport Extreme:
Speakers are plugged into this, audio goes via airplay (use headphones when doing audio work to avoid latency). 1.5tb notebook drive in enclosure also plugged in acts as time machine.Speakers:
(got them on sale like $100 off at a local retailer :D)Logitech wireless solar-powered keyboard:
Is awesome, I hope all manufacturers start making these to accomodate different keyboard design styles.Logitech Marathon wireless mouse:
Rated for like 3 years battery life on 2 AAs.Elevation iPhone dock:
Of kickstarter fame - a bit pricey but very solid and very practical.- epic setup. wish could convince myself to spend money on a thunderbolt display...inteliboy

I just got one last week...cause I inadvertently gave my 09 a bath. It's good, the solid state disk speed things up and it seems to stay much cooler during intensive processes. I was a little surprised that I had to buy an external DVD and Ethernet adapter, really Apple could have tossed in an Ethernet adapter. The Retina display is only weird when switching between optimized and non-optimized sites / apps as it makes you adjust your eyes a bit but overall it's a big improvement.
- so things like adobe suite and fcp etc operate/look ok?whereRI
- for sure, I have CS4 Master Collection currently and it looks and works same as before. I don't have FCP but the iMovie update for Retina is fantasticspot13
- ...update for Retina is fantasticspot13
- thanks good to knowwhereRI
- I hear InDesign crashes Retina MBPs. They (Adobe or Apple) don't have a solution as of yet.monospaced
- that could be, I don't use it very often but I can open files that our print designers send me and it's been much much more stable than my 2009 MBPspot13
- stable than my 2009 MBP running os x 10.6spot13

installed this gFX on my MBPr and the battery time has increased by 60-80%. Would be great if Apple add this to OSX.

Check everymac.com. Some models support 16GB of memory even though Apple claims they support 8GB.

It'd better kick ass. Just order mine.

interesting
*Apple officially supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM, but third-parties have determined that this model actually is capable of using up to 16 GB of RAM with two 8 GB memory modules.

@whereRI yup, my mid 2007 iMac according to Apple maxes at 4GB (2x2GB) but you can put a 2GB module and a 4GB module and it recognizes them to have 6GB.
In the case of my iMac due to the chipset it has if you do that disables the dual channel of them but the RAM works.
- Generally don't want to have uneven ram sticks in there, I don't think.nikdaum

An update from Apple regarding EPEAT:
