So are people buying the new Pros?
Did anyone buy a MBP since the new ones are out? Did you choose Retina or the regular screen?

Yep, they are glued

The iFix it teardown is illuminating.

@whereRI yup, my mid 2007 iMac according to Apple maxes at 4GB (2x2GB) but you can put a 2GB module and a 4GB module and it recognizes them to have 6GB.
In the case of my iMac due to the chipset it has if you do that disables the dual channel of them but the RAM works.
- Generally don't want to have uneven ram sticks in there, I don't think.nikdaum

interesting
*Apple officially supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM, but third-parties have determined that this model actually is capable of using up to 16 GB of RAM with two 8 GB memory modules.

Check everymac.com. Some models support 16GB of memory even though Apple claims they support 8GB.

I just got one last week...cause I inadvertently gave my 09 a bath. It's good, the solid state disk speed things up and it seems to stay much cooler during intensive processes. I was a little surprised that I had to buy an external DVD and Ethernet adapter, really Apple could have tossed in an Ethernet adapter. The Retina display is only weird when switching between optimized and non-optimized sites / apps as it makes you adjust your eyes a bit but overall it's a big improvement.
- so things like adobe suite and fcp etc operate/look ok?whereRI
- for sure, I have CS4 Master Collection currently and it looks and works same as before. I don't have FCP but the iMovie update for Retina is fantasticspot13
- ...update for Retina is fantasticspot13
- thanks good to knowwhereRI
- I hear InDesign crashes Retina MBPs. They (Adobe or Apple) don't have a solution as of yet.monospaced
- that could be, I don't use it very often but I can open files that our print designers send me and it's been much much more stable than my 2009 MBPspot13
- stable than my 2009 MBP running os x 10.6spot13

Editing videos/photo on a retina display is a thing of dreams I tell you, dreams.

Rule of thumb is NEVER buy the first generation of an Apple product.
- this what concerns mewhereRI
- this is like the umpteenth generation laptop they've made, monospaced
- Never buy the 1st gen of anything. And this one has a bunch of new stuff, so it isn't just an iteration.i_monk
- it's really not much different, dudemonospaced

AAAARRRRGGGG what to do?!
first world problem.think ill go see how shit other apps look on the retina in store and decide from there maybe. they RAM thing pisses me off tho
- yup, if you get it get the most RAM you can affordernexbcn
- yeah id get 16 on retina but other one has 8 limitwhereRI
- you can max the ram out 16gb on the non retina ones toomirrorball

It's been quite some time since they started releasing laptops with embedded batteries, just like the iPhones. I see no problem with that, batteries are better now than 5 years ago. And if you need to change it just bring the computer to an Apple Store or authorized reseller and they can swap it.
Pretty sure you can also do it yourself but I haven't looked.

try to summarize,
No I don't have one,
but after thinking about the pros and cons,
which must be similar to all those pointed before (battery life, soldiered ram/disk, weight, price).
it comes down to stability of the OS and price tag,if I had the money I would probably buy one because my trustee vaio is dying
- whereRI0
do you have one georges?
- GeorgesII0
fuck I wrote a lengthy reply,
it seems it didn't broadcast...

*echo*
- whereRI0
Oh the battery glued thing is also a big concern
- why?ernexbcn
- Because you are forced to DIY and probably void your warranty, or forced to go into an Apple storekgvs72
- going into an Apple Store for free labor is NOT DIY, stop being so dramaticmonospaced
- read a bit about it asshole.

i_was - That's only if it's DIY. Apple still replaces batteries and faulty hardware. I'm not an asshole.monospaced

Hi
so many mixed reviews out there, wondering if anyone has one here? Need a new laptop, would get the older one but my concern is the RAM cant go up more than 8. The retina goes to 16. But rumors of poor graphics card performance on retina because they maxed it out for display worry me. I do motion stuff, but need to be mobile - my trusty 2009 MBP has served me very well but is starting to feel a little tired. What kinda worries me too is that for the same spec, the MBP retina is cheaper, even with 16 gb instead of 8...
