High Street near the university?
I'd assume - off the cuff - there's some culture concentrated there?

High St isn't what it used to be. When I was hanging out there over 10 years ago it was door to door bars and you could buy 5 gallon buckets of beer for $5. They tore down all those bars to make way for Urban Outfitters and Boarders Book Stores. Damn Shame.
I guess the short north on High St. between downtown and campus might still be a cool place to go.

Check out the short north / Clintonville / grandview.
@rainmain mentioned some of foodie staples here in town.
But there are many more if you check out Experience Columbus website they have some great stuff listed. Some other good places in short north :
Hubbard Grill / Rossi / Haiku / LemongrassIf you have time checkout the photography exhibit at the museum of art downtown. And the Wexner center up near campus always has interesting exhibits.
What part of town are you staying?

rainman has some great suggestions.
I'd also throw in Elevator Brewery and Drought Haus. A damn fine place for a drink and round of pool.
Wexner usually has some interesting art as mentioned as well as great music performances. Worth peeking at the schedule.

If you like steaks, I go to The Top Steakhouse, http://thetopsteakhouse.com/. I prefer it over most of the chain steakhouses in town. The Top has great food and the decor reminds you of the rat pack days. It's not downtown though (it's in Bexley), but it's worth the 5-10 minute drive depending on where you're staying.

Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys for the suggestions. I'm actually making point to get out there once a year now.
Crushed a ton of beer, ate some great food, saw Joey Diaz perform, went to Rock on the Range (Incubus, Cypress Hill, Manson) and met a great guy who makes edibles.
Oh, and I hit up 4 food trucks in one day. Toronto is seriously lacking in that department.

Oooo which food trucks?
I work AT Dirty Franks making slushie cocktails for the masses, as well as for Surly Girl, and Betty's, etc doing design - you check any of those out? .
Rainman is not lying about The Top. Pure swank there.

No, Pratt '98 - but since we are the same year I'm sure we share acquaintances. The NYC pee smell was too much for me and now that I'm close to 90, I love a clean city.
