@albums
Thanks for the feedback! After talking with the industrial design lead for the project he explained to me a little more thoroughly the $60K pricetag.
For rapid prototyping, we were able to locally source 3D prints for a good price. Instead of a more costly RTV mold to produce a limited amount of parts, we went with more cost-effective 3D prints to prove the design of the product. This was much more cost and time effective for us.
As explained above, the price is almost all going to be put into production expenses - tooling and setup for the molds and the minimum buy in.
Also driving up price was the fact that we chose to source our manufacturing locally from the Metro Detroit area. Sure, we could have saved maybe half the cost by going overseas, but we felt a lot better by supporting local - even if it meant increased price.

What I see though, it's mostly industrial usage, is this...
FDM printing for end use parts, It comes off a 3d printer and goes right to use, no finishing, casting, or anything. print. done. use.
RTV Tooling for up to 1000ish parts, that RTV mold won't hold for the long haul, you want to stop using it before it begins to break down, but it helps initial sales, you'd need two molds, 1 for each half, you can make these molds from a finished STL or FDM printed part, these costs aren't astronomical either.
Tooled Injection Molding for 10's of thousands of units, usually done in sets of 4-16 or more depending on part size for rapid production
I can attest that an RTV mold of this part is easily molded to the same specs as your tool will be, complete with your logo embossed into the piece. it all comes down to the finish quality of the part to be molded.
I'm familiar with manufacturers in Texas, so don't come down too hard on me insinuating I brought up overseas production, I never did.
I understand tooling costs, I've seen some small tools nearing the 50K mark, I understand your investment is large because you want to cover potential sales & options in your production run
The only reason for my comments is 60K is a big mark in 30 days, so far you're not on track. I hope you don't have to rethink your strategy, but we'll see in a month.
My rambled suggestions are for lowering your investment cost so you can actually get to manufacture your product if this Kickstart doesn't work. I know people you can talk to if your current route doesn't work out. I know they can help you explore your options.

The WrapUp is an accessory for macbook owners that allows you to better organize and protect your product. Available for both 65 and 80-watt magsafe adapters for macbooks, the WrapUp will allow for you to wrap your cord up more securely while providing important stress relief to the adapters existing couplings.
If you would like more info on the product I encourage you to visit our kickstarter and watch the video: http://www.kickstarter.com/proje…

@MarleyMarl
I know it's a bit spam-ish. But I like QBN. And I think some of the members here would enjoy the product as well.
Truth be told, there are far worse spammers that come here. And as albums mentioned, i've been quite active on the site for a few years now.
Sorry if you're getting tired of seeing the thread. I would politely ask that you simply ignore it. Thanks for understanding.

I would buy it for couple of my friends who always manage to break their cable. Me on the other hand still don't understand how hard it is to not break that cable.
good luck. i'll spread the word. although i'm not the most popular on internet.

Why would I want my name embossed in the interior? Where I can't see it? It makes no sense. Also I do read thunklabs too.
Other than that, good luck with your venture.
