i wouldn't mind getting into investments but wouldn't even know where to start
- I use Charles Schwab. An investment company like that is the best place.monospaced
- 'Index investing' is super easy and very low cost. Takes the guess work out of it.aldebaran
- +1 to Schwab, esp. for New Yorkers.ismith
- for 20 years I was with Schwab in California.monospaced

What other stocks have you purchased mono? Are you big into stock picking?
- I've been doing this for about 15 years. I like long-term, low-risk usually (mutual funds) but have a good amount of stock.monospaced
- and after moving to NYC I made a lot of hedge fund manager friends who give me free advice. :Dmonospaced

Sheeeeez
I was thinking on getting some CfDs based on Apple.
I guess I can consider myself a cunt.BTW, it wouldn't have been a bad move to sell AAPL stocks before Jobs death and buy again straight after.

Wow, it passed 500 yesterday and is well on its way to 525 as we speak.
- Who would have thought this back in the 90s or even the 2000s?ernexbcn

... and right after I wrote that up there, Tim Cook spoke to Goldman Sachs about the very same things:
- I am sure Apple is really concerned about work conditions in China!utopian

^ I have to disagree. The prospects for future growth are a hot topic right now, from the iPad 3 to the possibility of their TV solution. Entering into the global market with their phones is opening up huge opportunities and soon Siri will be adapted to Chinese, Russian and other Asian languages, making their demand grow. So, despite competitors with all those tablets and feature-rich phones, Apple is still making great product on a larger scale than ever before. So, even though they have a huge holding and their stock is inflated, it's definitely still growing.
- I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T hit 600 in the next 9 months.monospaced
- Easy money :)pinkfloyd

^That's just it. Their stock value seems based more on the companies holdings than it's prospects for future growth.
- The holdings are a sign of monumental, unheard of growth and also a sign of future growthmonospaced
- "monumental, unheard of growth" straight through the worst financial crisis in years... how do you square that?monNom
- ??? Doubling profits every quarter for a year, that's how.monospaced
- well yes, but it's a tricky environment in which to do that long term.monNom
- well, yeah! that's why investors like myself follow the company very closely and try to keep emotion out of itmonospaced

They don't pay dividends, but they have close to 100 billion of cash laying around so it's could happen.
- right..;. they have paid in the past, so it's not unheard of... they've also split before...monospaced
- aldebaran0
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty APPL sure doesn't pay dividends right?
- aldebaran0
If I had the cash I would start shorting AAPL.
