Hello fellow Newstoday® membership. So... I'm diving head-first into iOS game development and am doing my best getting up to speed with the nerdtastic world of Cocos2D.
I have been enjoying Ray Wenderlich's "Learning Cocos2D" and am getting familiar with C2D's possibilities. And of course I've been all over the dev forums and blogs etc. Installed Lion and the latest XCode fresh and even bought some helper apps - SpriteHelper and LevelHelper - they look like great little utilities and will prob save me from goobing around with spritesheets and backdrops at some point. So I think I'm set.
I am primarily going to focus on classic 2D scrolling games and fighting games like Snooki Fighter II, etc.
So what I'm wondering is if some of you have headed down this path and if you might have some helpful tips or resources that you stumbled upon that made things slightly easier.
I'm thinking of maybe looking at other dev books or even something that might help me to regurgitate a crazy game idea into a nicely organized sketch or storyboard. I will create some sketching templates for level backgrounds and character sprites myself, but it would be cool to find something to learn from, etc.
Your dev thoughts, stories and tips are greatly appreciated.

So a bit of a bump... was checking out a solution for dealing with an RPG style dialogue engine for 'Snooki Fantasy XIII-2' and stumbled across this possibly useful app: www.chat-mapper.com

how much iOS work have you done? I make apps at work and then build games at home.
I'm building a game in cocos2d at the moment and have found having a strong knowledge of Objective C has helped, sometimes there's quicker ways of doing things in pure ObC.
All the advice I can give you is set yourself a deadline, because when you're working on your own games you can keep polishing them forever. It's better to have a shit game that's finished, than a brilliant game that will never be.- yeah don't 3DRealms on yourself :)ernexbcn
