Anyone have a preference? Feels like Netflix has shitty options and just started looking into alternatives for creative content. Is anyone happy with Hulu +??

Netflix needs to step up their game for all the bullshit they've been pulling lately. Their instant catalog is minuscule, and with them phasing out DVDs by mail, they'll be nothing to watch.

    • there will, not 'they'll'. sorry every one.dopepope1/2

there is some glitch in hulu plus that i randomly came across while steaming hours of it while i was home sick. i don't have a paid account, but while i was streaming show after show, i came across one that is only available for paying members. thought it was strange, so itried to add all of the shows into my cue. to my surprise it worked. weird.

as far as netflix, it's pretty good for the shows i like (myth busters, top gear, mad men, breaking bad, walking dead, anthony bourdain along with several other cooking/travel) but for movies they are pretty shitty.

so to sum up netflix-good for older seasons of shows and a lot of content.

    hulu-haven't tried the paid subscription

    • i mean hulu regular. ie.non-subscription basedlvl_13

I got rid of cable and have been using Netflix through my PS3 for a few years. Netflix is good for older TV series (IT Crowd, Myth Busters, Top Gear, Battlestar Gallitica, Dexter etc etc) and Documentaries but their movie selection is pretty shitty.
I tried Hulu Plus through the PS3 (using my sisters log in info who was already paying for it anyway) and the streaming was so slow and paused every few minutes to catch up. That was annoying as hell and the Netflix streams flawlessly 95% of the time.
If I want to watch a new release that I'll watch on the iTV or Vudu. With all these options no wonder Hollywood Video and Blockbuster are bankrupt.

    • I want to get rid of my cable too just looking for a fresh source of contet...vudu or itv...hmmm will look into that. Is iTV through Apple TV?CGN1/3
I use Netflix thru my PS3 also, tho mostly just for my son's shows. Not great but good.arthur2/3

Vudu is great, they give you 3 different price options depending on how HD you want to watch it. The lowest is still better than Netflix and I only rent the highest if it's a heavy CG movie and it looks almost as good as a blue ray.

seems to have some series. not as many as apple tv.

we're doing the same. got rid of cable since no one is around to watch it. although we do have our fav shows, so we went with netfix and hulu plus route.

Netflix we love. it is a great service. though XBOX live, the app works great and with the voice commands it's even better ("Xbox pause" and there you go paused show, "Xbox next episode" Voilà) we pay $8.00 a month, can view it on three Xbox accounts at once and on devices (tablets, phones). Love love the service.

Hulu Plus. I can't stand. the interface is counter productive. I find that getting to the show we want to watch are rarely available on the tv. ie. not all the shows on it are able to stream via television and it's not very clear which are which are not. (the simpsons to name one) The search is awful and the service does not work on typical mobile devices. doesn't work on my ipad1 or my androids gingerbread (device not supported) ?!?

saying that note we are going to drop hulu plus and replace it with http://www.playon.tv/ . has better shows ( http://www.playon.tv/channels ) and a life time buy in (50 bucks). it is a little more technical to set up (has to stream via WMC plugin) but ive gotten great reviews by people i know whom use it already.

    • hey so is it hulu, not hulu plus? with play on? cause hulu plus really does suck.sea_sea1/2

Not sure if its been mentioned, but one thing I found out about hulu+ through roku (a friend told me this), some content is only available on PC's and not through players like the roku or Xbox. She wanted to watch something (forget what it was) and a message came up, can only be seen through a PC.

If thats true, its bullshit. Hulu+ is a paid product, they should release all their content if you a subscriber, through all sorts of portals.

    Just putting it out there.

    • agreed...hulu is not looking so good. hahaCGN

I wish the Apple TV would include a Hulu+ app.

    • no kidding. or perhaps incorporate the airplay thing on the laptop so that it's a universal thing, not just limited to ituneslvl_131/6
to itunes. ie. i am playing hulu show fullscreen on my macbook. universal control comes up to allow airplay.lvl_132/6
basically have a screen share function through apple tv that allows for screenshare with the macbook. that would be sick!lvl_133/6
      agreedmonospaced4/6
use xbmc via your apple tv. Hulu(+) and Netflix in there too. http://goo.gl/18gxHNitrus5/6
netflix is already incorporated into Apple TV by default, and i don't prefer to jailbreak it.monospaced6/6

I built a Home Theater PC and got a HD video card with an HDMI output and a tuner card. I hooked the tuner card up to an antenna and I plugged it into my 50" and ditched cable. Cancelling cable paid for the computer, wireless keyboard and mouse in about six months. Everything that isn't broadcast I get from Pirate Bay. They have an easy search and no monthly fees.
    F*** cable AND Netflix.

yeah screw cable, i do Netflix, which is ok, i like that i can screen something and if i don't like it go on to the next.

was looking into hulu plus but you can't watch all the shows they have on their free service...wtf? it's weird. you would think they would give you access to their whole selection if you're paying. so screw them too. i'll just watch it for free. plus they have way too many commercials.

gonna check out VUDU and play on. both sound good. thanks fooler and plash! :)

I have both, but Hulu having Criterion makes it really easy to browse. The ads piss me off though. Just get the trial to both and cancel whichever one you hate more.
