This is a sequel to my Sega thread.
The Neo Geo is a legendary system. One of the first 32-bit systems on the market, it's big niche was that it could handle massive amounts of memory in its cartridges which meant bigger, more complex animation and gameplay. Also, SNK was a player in arcades and the dual nature of Neo Geo games use in arcades and at home made it's games have a true arcade feel in execution and presentation.
There was later a Neo Geo pocket gaming system that was a humble success in itself.

It wasn't 32-bit. It was 16-bit, with an 8-bit co-processor.
- I should know, I had one. Briefly.Continuity

I would believe that because it came out during the era of Mega Drive and Super Fami but can we verify the info with a link?

The Neo Geo was marketed as being 24-bit, which — besides seeming incredibly wonky — was misleading, given that it was simply a souped-up 16-bit machine, with a separate 8-bit co-processor for sound processing.
- Wonky in the same way that having a Mac with 5GB of RAM would be wonky.Continuity

- Seems to me the first worry with an all-wood cabinet would be heat. There doesn't seem to be any venting at all.Continuity
- the thought crossed my mind, i guess i'll do some testing before it gets enclosed at all; heat checksprophetone

I could never undrstand how the Neo Geo ecosystem worked when I was a kid — back then, the idea of bewaged adults playing computer games seemed unlikely, and I couldn't begin to imagine what level of spoilt a kid would have to be to own a system which cost a grand (if I recall right?) whose games cost upwards of £200 each.
Nearly two decades later I can begin to understand.
Almost.

'... whose games cost upwards of £200 each.'
And this is partly why the Neo Geo tanked outside Japan. That, and the absolutely dismal range of games on offer. Well, in Canada, anyway, I don't know about anywhere else.
