HijoDMaite yeah you're right on point. I was going into a different type of technology there. Switching gears so to speak. But yeah I would like to think the 3 hours playing backyard football would be more beneficial overall to ones life.

You say:
"It appears to me at least, that at the root of technology (on the consumer side of things) is to make our lives easier or more convenient. At it's best I agree with that statement. Getting key bits of information in a timely manner, doing something quicker, etcetera."
Then in the same graff you talk about how:
"The biggest trouble I've had with technology and it's proper use has been video game systems."
Aren't we talking about two different types of technology?
Video games are entertainment, they are not generally created to "help us make our lives easier or more convenient."
Would you argue that 50 years ago you would have wasted 3 hours playing tackle football with your friends, in a field, on a Saturday morning? Sure you get more physical exercise, but you're more likely to exercise your brain with the video games.
So what kind of alternative activities do you think of when the guilt of a 3 hours of videos game session hits you?
