Schools will probably be named after him. Like Edison.
- Not so sure about that.CygnusZero4
- Edison had a bigger impact on the world.CygnusZero4
- I agree mono, in 10 years people will understand how important that chap was...Ambushstudio
- Steve's vision made computers useful and ubiquitous, thus defining the modern world, much like a lightbulb.monospaced
- OH COME ON.
They were both Patent hoarding team-members..detritus - and I really do question this whol 'Jobs invented the PC' thing. that's total bullshit.detritus
- 'Team leaders' even.detritus
- Difference is Edison worked alone, coming up with ideas and building them. Steve didnt do this.CygnusZero4
- Steve worked with teams to create things. Some of these things arent solely from him.CygnusZero4
- I never, ever said he invented the computer. I said his vision made computing useful for the everyday person.monospaced
- It's Apple as a whole, hundreds of individuals, who invented things. But Steve was the face.monospaced
- You mightnt've, mono - but the rest of the free world is saying he did.detritus
- Edison had the company. Edison DID NOT work alone. Tesla worked for Edison.JSK
- ..and your posts and reverence implies sole responsibility.detritus
- Read up on Edison - he was a bit of a bastard. Like Jobs. But then, so are many Greats. Hitler and Khan too...detritus
- well, we all know most of the world are idiots. I don't want to be misinterpreted.monospaced
- (that was a bit of a joke, before anyone gets too angsty)detritus
- Edison didn't work alone. He worked very much like Jobs__TM
- Edison company has turned in to utility corp after years.JSK

From Bill Gates Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/BillGat…
"I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.
Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.
The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.
For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely."

Try to keep it respectful. This thread should be an homage, regardless of anyone's opinions.

NYT has a pretty good obituary
- SteveJobs0
and from the top comment on that video:
1. this is when Bill gates was helping them developing Macintosh.
2. Microsoft bought 20% of apple in 1997 and saved Apple from bankruptcy, they also got lot of stuff from Microsoft such as internet explorer which became the default browser in all Mac's at the time.- Wow, I actually forgot that IE used to be the default browser.dMullins

I would not expect Jobs influence to completely influence the next iphone design, I'm sure there would be some tweeking still going on at this stage... how the hell would he and Ive streamline that thing even more when the fn mackbook and powermac are still identical since mid-decade.
