I've been considering ING for a long time, especially because of their outstanding interest rates. Any thoughts on moving over to them?
I'm already practicing using only cash and credit cards. Not easy.

» Bank Transfer Day: Remember, Remember the 5th of November
Money-movers, who advocate changing from large corporate banks to credit unions or small local banks, are calling to make November 5 a nationwide Bank Transfer Day.
Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will ALWAYS remember the 5th of November!!
• Open an account with a Credit Union
• Transfer your funds to the new account (online or in person) by 11/05
• Follow your bank’s procedures to close your accountTo find a credit union near you: http://www.findacreditunion.com/…...

PS.
Relying on a wire transfer also leave your money subject to creative bank fees as it heads out the door, and lets your ex-bank know where you’ve gone so they can pursue you with additional charges. Much better, I think, to take almost all your money in a bank check and walk it over to a credit union for deposit into your new account.
For easy deposit at the credit union end, open your account there (usually costs $5.00) earlier in the week.
Then, the following week when you’re sure your outstanding checks have cleared your bank account and that you’ve redirected all your auto-billpay transactions, go to your bank branch and close your account.

Remember when checking accounts costed money. Markets are slipping backwards. I had no problem with stiff overdraft/interest rate penalties. Especially if those losses provided the benefits of free check cards.
But oh well if wells fargo charges 3 dollars a month ill pay it. 36 bucks a year for the inconvenience of having to go to branch atms is worth it. Maybe they'll do a tiered rate if u have X amoutn of dollars in the account or X amount of services being used.

Funny thing is that most of these failures are not related to MBS but rather more to do with poor management and poor lending practice.

JSK: "All these small regional banks failing..."
Wow, and most of them I've never heard of. However, banks like Hyde Park Bank, Standard, Cole Taylor have been around for a while and managed to maintain a neighborhood profile. We'll see.

The best part about Bank of America is that they are actually Bank of America Merrill Lynch (Countrywide), which means they control your money, your stocks, and your house!

Cable / utilities companies make up fees and charges.
While banks have to report any fees added to the service product, cable / utilities do not. They make it sound like a tax or some sort of government fees but in reality it is not.
Usually its quite small, $1.23 or $.50 but those suckers add up. And when you call them to ask, they never give you a straight answer and will never send out anything in writing about what those fees are.
- I am more pissed at this because you have no choice on different product or service providers.JSK
- You have a choice. Get an antenna. I get a better pic with mine than I did with cable. I like saving the $100 to miss Dexter.lemmy_k
- Legally, a fee is not enforceable, therefore they cannot commit on paper to terms unless you've signed for them.dMullins
