Someone broke into the studio last night and all the took was a vizio flat screen. I think we're pretty lucky actually.
They busted one of the front windows, reached in and grabbed the TV.

A couple of years ago I had someone break into my office (I work in-house) they took a G4 and two acer 22" (I hated those monitors anyway). They left my G5 just sitting there with all my unbacked-up files.

Yeah, you're lucky. They could have been waiting there to assault your anus with all manner of prods, rods, and muscled bods.

a photo studio I work with got broken in to and all they took was some older macs. They left all the Mamiya medium formats and 5D MKIIs just sitting there. Luckily a lot of criminals are stupid.

It's really about what they can sell quickly, and not about what things are worth.

I remember when I was a kid, our house got broken into.
They'd put all their schwag in our pillowcases and even took some of the pillows. Something had happened in the kitchen though and there was loads of blood on the floor. Nothing came up from the police though.
My mum came home from work and got to the kitchen before she'd realised we'd been robbed. She initially thought my dad had got injured...
- perhaps he was a time traveler injured from the trip that needed suppliesernexbcn
- That seems the most likely scenario.bulletfactory

I was at shop here in Seattle, and a "cleaning crew" came in and took over 25 G5's and Cinema displays. They did an investigation and discovered they used a common Firefighter elevator trick to get into the building. loaded up the machines in big gray garbage bins and out they went. Blew me away.

These studios that experienced break-ins, none had alarm systems or any other electronic security?
Genuinely curious here.
- Blaming the victim?i_monk
- Not at all. Just wondering how well alarms and cameras serve to deter.melq
- they didn't have cameras, but had an alarm. they got away before cops got there. they have cameras now.johnny_wobble

we had a studio on the ground floor, after first break in through the door (mb pro, canon g7, insurance paid) we installed iron grating for the door and locks for the windows and stuff. At the second break in (mb pro, insurance paid) those motherfuckers just brutally pulled out the (secured) blinds and smashed the (locked) window. It‘s a lively street, but it seems like nobody cared. It was a lovely studio. We moved out.

a few months somebody broke into my house. the lucky bastard left with my macbook and a pc laptop, thankfully they missed the missus' cannon 5D and the insurance gave me a brand new MBP.
A less lucky friend of mine got all his video editing gear stolen and had to close his business : (

While in college, had my garden level apartment broken into (had two other roommates at the time). Every drawer and closet was rifled through and everything was thrown on the ground. Scared the shit out of me, while at the same time making me fucking furious. Found a shit-ton of my clothes(??) next to the train tracks just behind the building under a random front door someone had thrown out, as well as my bike. We called the cops, and they told us just to hang out by the tracks with a baseball bat(!) fucking weird.

I walked in on someone robbing my apartment 4 years back, it was really surreal. He had two bags of stuff packed up and was just unplugging my brand new imac as I pushed upon my door, which was slightly ajar.
He claimed to be an electrician and had a master key for the building, but I wasn't convinced as he was around 22 years old and wearing baggy hip hop gear from head to toe.
I followed him to the elevator and asked him why my playstation was in his backpack, to which he replied "This is my gear mothafucka, get inside and I'll show you"
As I didn't want to get into a close-quarters melee with someone who may have been armed, I let the elevator door close, at which point I booked it down 12 flights of stairs, popped out the alley exist, and confronted him at the front door just as he was leaving.
I said "Motherfucker gimme my shit" which drew the attention of some passerbys. He dropped the gear and yelled "I'm from Floreedaa boy, I'll whoop you" and we stood face to face, about to throw down when I young girl, 17 perhaps, came out of nowhere and grabbed him by the hand, the two then took off running.
Just then the building manager came running out and said "Is that him???" all frantic like. I said "Who?" She said "The guy who has been robbing the building for the past two weeks." I said "WHAT THE FUCK?"
I called the cops and myself and the building manager, a small Filipino lady, began pursuit. We ran 3 blocks uphill at full blast as I told the fuzz what was up.
But we'd already lost him, or so I thought. The lady and I split, each running down different streets, when I saw the guy getting into a taxi. I ran up, preparing myself for a full blast bodycheck when two cop cars swerved around the corner and blocked him in.
I believe he ended up copping a plea and was sent back to Florida.
