leaning towards this too. would like to know source of black goo as its not explained if it was created or discovered by engineers. im guessing they discovered it and used it to 'farm' with worms to create squiddy facehuggers for planetary cleanup

why is everyone questioning the science of a science fiction movie?
unless it's a documentary, i always assume a movie does not take place in this universe. they make decisions and take actions that seem abnormal in the universe we know, but seem perfectly normal for the characters in that universe.
who would want to watch the version of prometheus where they:
-SPOILERS-
• debate whether or not the cave paintings are an invation?
• they wait for every conceivable bit of information before they start touching things
• the characters voices are muffled and faces are hard to see through their space helmets
• they find a door they can open, but don't. because they don't know what's on the other side
• they can bring a head back to life, but decide not to
• they can wake up an engineer, but don't cause their scared.^ that sounds like a lame movie.

Noone sighed in the theater I was in or complained about any of this stuff. It's only people that forget this is a sci-fi movie and like to nitpick things.
Sometimes characters have to make dumb decisions to make for a more interesting movie. If this movie were exactly as real humans would have dealt with all these situations, I would have walked out.

I have to agree with taking off the helmets ..

Loved the movie. All of the comments that are hating on it, I feel, hate it for all the wrong reasons. It's a movie; it's going to be unrealistic at times.
I didn't really see many plot holes at all. This isn't Alien, but merely an extension of its universe, and it contains a completely story, theme, and goal.
Well done, in my opinion.

I loved it too. Matter of fact, I'm going back to see it tonight after seeing it last night for the first time. This is the first time I can remember watching a movie, walking out of the theater, and wanting to immediately watch it again. It leaves a lot to the imagination and there are quite a few WTF moments, but I was completely engrossed by it and was amazed by the experience of it. Really awesome movie.

be aware... engineers at it again
Hungry Jack syrup truck spills onto Buttermilk Pike
A highway truck accident never sounded so delicious. A semitrailer hauling Hungry Jack pancake syrup collided with a highway median at the Buttermilk Pike overpass in northern Kentucky, causing the truckload of syrup to spill all over the highway.

did anyone already mention the similarity between the black goo and the black smoke from Lost? seem to have very similar concept on how they function. but it could be just a coincidence, since the screenwriters are different. oh, wait..
